Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
Thank you Ireland for the gift of faith in my
family - from my mother's mother Anne
Marie Quinn, born near Galway in 1872,
who travelled from Toowoomba in Queensland to Ireland for the 1932 Eucharistic
Congress
May Ireland soon be blessed with happier times....with smiling Irish eyes
Yesterday for me was a happy day....10am to
6pm spent in Lai Chi Kok Detention Centre....visiting the men in their
rooms/cells + centre hospital (..about 30 -50 new drug addicts each day..). The
little booklet "Doctor Jesus" has had
a really good reception by the men....with quite
a few being physically healed after praying to Jesus...and hopefully even
more given the grace to get off drugs etc
Last night being the 3rd Friday of the month,
I joined the volunteer team of Fr Slawek o.m.i. (Notre Dame Parish, Kowloon)
for the distribution of some 100 rice boxes to needy people....nearly all
men...most of them ex-inmates....many of them know me from
"inside"
Distribution point is outside the Yau Ma Tei clinic where the men go for their daily dose of Methadone....and where not a few drug deals are done
Over the past few 3rd Fridays....now that the
men know me well....I have gone down the queue (before the rice boxes come) and
put my right hand on each man's head for a silent blessing for about 15-30
seconds (...praying in my heart:
"Jesus, may he feel your love in his heart, and may your love give him hope
and good health"
Last night a new development: at several stages of the queue...where "business" was being done.....the business was suspended to allow me to put my hands on the businessmen for a blessing....while they were holding their business in their hands. Some looked up at end of blessing with eyes that carried the message "If only I didn't have to do drugs"
May the love of Jesus soon help them not need business ...or Methadone!
An earlier Friday night drug reflection - from November last year
God bless!
