Companionship, not sex, at heart of celibacy debate
Clare Quirk (The Standard)

On Facebook link of The Standard
by Lisa Owen

I have appreciated your coverage on the priests' conference. The problem with the Church is that it is top heavy. Rome dictates and the minions (fewer now) must obey. Recently the Vatican changed the wording of the Mass. The changes made little difference to the people except to disempower us and to remind us all that we are indeed powerless and have no representation within our church. The church's hierarchy gives us lip service and then rules according their own desires.
The Church has become extremely author
itative, right wing, defensive and protective. This was the problem with the abuse scandals...
The Church has done many many good things but this particular mistake or sin has almost brought it undone. The Church needs to open up it doors and windows and again let in the fresh air of the Vatican 11 conference. Let these good priests go to the Vatican with the 'body of Christ' laity and help the Church heal its terrible brokenness with acceptance, openness and unconditional love. Christ came to change the burdensome rules of the Pharisees and brought a new rule, to love one another. The Church
'
s hierarchy are our modern day Pharisees

Reader's comment  (re July 13 DailyBlog)

Couldn’t agree more with you on the exclusion of deacons from the Anointing of the Sick.
As for the ‘forgiveness of sins’ business, it is clear that the liturgists and gatekeepers of
the Sacraments have no idea what the Penitential Rite at Mass is all about.
If they made the connection there
and also read a bit of the history of the Sacraments then they would see  Anointing goes back
to a very liberality in past, especially early, ecclesial practice and not at all clerical.

Today - 11th day, 11th hour:
A Day of Sadness

New bishop for Toowoomba.
Ceremony will be streamed live on diocesan website. Extensive coverage in Toowoomba Chronicle "The Chronicle will have photographs, video and commentary on our website from the conclusion of the ceremony tomorrow afternoon.
An extensive coverage of the ordination will feature in Chronicle on Thursday"
John W's comment:
My heart goes out to Bishop Bill Morris. Imagine how he is feeling today. He must be feeling like a devoted husband whose loving wife has been snatched from him and is today being married, against her will, to another. An invalid marriage! History will show that Bill's removal from Toowoomba was a great act of injustice. Some day he will be vindicated, just like Mary MacKillop. In the light of numbers 1-10 below,  those (freely) taking part in today's ceremony should feel most  uncomfortable. By their presence they are saying yes to an act of injustice.  Blessings on the people of principle who boycott today's ceremony. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice.  "Lest we forget"
