Judges 8

After Gideon defeated all the enemies of the Israelites,
the Israelites asked him to be their ruler.

He replied: "It is not I who shall rule over you, nor my son;
The Lord must be your ruler".

After Gideon's death, the people of Israel
again began to worship the local idols.
They no longer remembered the Lord who had so often rescued them.

The people were also ungrateful to Gideon's family
despite all the good deeds that family had done for Israel.

Dear Lord, please don't let me ever become an ungrateful person

Psalm 72

O Lord, please bless the king,
that he might serve your people with justice.

May the mountains bring forth peace for the people
and the hills, justice.

The kings of Sheba and Seba bring him gifts.
All nations will serve him.

He will save the poor when they cry for help
and the needy who are helpless.

He will have pity on the weak
and save the lives of the poor.

May every tribe be blessed in him.
May every nation bless his name.

May all the nations know and love you, Lord

Ephesians 1

God the Father raised Christ from death, and put him on the divine throne

Christ is the C.E.O. of  the universe, in charge of everything,
from galaxies to governments.
No one and nothing is exempt from his rule

At the center of everything is the church.
It is Christ's body, in which he speaks and acts

Jesus, help me understand how the church is the heart of the world,
pumping your life and love to all parts of the world

Luke 2

Not far from where Mary had her baby,
there were shepherds who lived in the fields
and took it in turns to watch their sheep during the night

An angel appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them.
The angel said "Do not be afraid.  I bring you news of great joy,
a joy to be shared by everyone.

Today in the town of David, a savior has been born to you.
He is Christ the Lord.
Look for a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger"

Suddenly with the angel there were many other angels,
praising God and singing "Glory to God in heaven, and peace to people on earth"

"O come let us adore him, O come let us adore him,
O come let us adore him, Christ the Lord"
