The Message was handed down from generation to generation in two forms:
- a written form (which became our present Bible)
- a spoken form ("Tradition") which includes the leadership of the church
and also includes the special instinct/intuition of  Christians as a group to "sniff" the truth

The two go together.
They are like two streams from the same sacred pool

The Message is contained in both streams.
The Message is not in the Bible alone

It was the Tradition which determined the Bible,
not the other way around

The Tradition is not superior to the Bible.
The Tradition is the servant of the Bible

The Tradition's job is to guard and explain accurately
what is in the Bible

Without the Tradition, the Bible can become a turkey shoot for people wanting to make their own interpretations of the Bible.
Without faithfulness to the Bible, the Tradition can become just human regulations divorced from The Message
