Dear Friends
Hello on Holy Saturday
Last Thursday night as I washed feet
during the Holy Thursday Mass at Peng Chau Island
I had a new experience: painted toenails
The same night last year also had something
special:
Last year's Mass was in a detention centre dormitory area
(starting time was near "lock-down" time...so service could not be
held anywhere else).
Most of the men attending were not Christians,
so I tried to explain everything
very carefully as we went along.
But I didn't anticipate this question after the
washing of feet:
"Father, will we drink the water?
Yesterday morning, Good Friday, I spent
a couple of hours
at an island drug-related detention centre.
Very few, a handful out of the 400 I saw yesterday,
are much interested in Jesus.
Yet they urgently need him
because most/many will go back on drugs as soon as they are released
and so many of them have lost hope of ever getting off drugs
I thought to myself:
when Jesus was hanging on the Cross,
on this day, at this hour,
one of his greatest pieces of mental suffering
must have been the knowledge
that so many people throughout the ages
would not be interested in him
...so many would not even know much about him
Jesus, thank you for dying on the Cross.
When we feel "why keep going...why bother any more?"
may your Cross give us courage not to give up
My Bible Plan for today = the readings of tonight's Easter Vigil
Thank you for a prayer
God bless!
