Leviticus 8 - 10

Moses followed God's instructions
and ordained Aaron and his sons as priests.

Moses washed them, put special clothing on them,
anointed their heads with chrism
and offered a special animal sacrifice on their behalf.

Then Aaron lifted up his hands towards the people
and blessed them.

A  flame from the Lord consumed the offering on the altar.
The people shouted for joy and fell on their knees.

But later on when two of Aaron's sons offered unauthorized fire
a fire from the Lord consumed them.

Moses then said:
"God expects the highest standard from priests".

Dear God, please bless and protect all priests

Psalm 112

Happy are people who love and honor the Lord,
who take delight in his commands.
The children of such people will be blessed.

Such people are a light in the darkness for others.
Such people are generous, merciful and just.

They take pity and help those in need.
They conduct their affairs with  integrity.

Open-handed they give to the poor.
Their justice and goodness will never be forgotten.

Lord, please help me do more for the poor

Romans 1

I thank God for the way people everywhere speak of your faith

I never fail to mention you in my prayers.
I pray for the opportunity to visit you if God wills

I long to see you to encourage you and to be encouraged by you

For I am not ashamed of the Good News.
It is the power of God saving everyone who has faith,
Jews first then everyone else

Jesus, help me to pray for others the way Paul prayed for others

Mark 14

On Passover Eve, Jesus ate a last meal with his apostles.
While they were eating, Jesus told them he knew he would be betrayed
by one of them. He told Judas he knew he was the betrayer.

Then Jesus took some bread, blessed it and gave it to his apostles saying
" This is my body"

Then he took a cup of wine, blessed it and gave it to them saying
"This is my blood"

Jesus, please help me understand how bread and wine
become your body and blood when Christians celebrate the Eucharist
