Exodus 10

Pharaoh's advisers urged him to let the Israelites go.
They said to him "How much longer is this affair going to go on?
Let the Israelites go before Egypt is ruined."

Pharaoh agreed to let the men go, but not the rest of the people.

So God sent two more plagues on the Egyptians:
locusts which devoured all the plants and trees
and then three days of total darkness,
except in the land where the Israelites lived.

But even after the above nine plagues,
Pharaoh still wouldn't let the people go.

Dear God, stubbornness can sometimes be a good thing,
but please don't let me be stubborn if that will hurt other people

Psalm 84

How lovely is your sacred temple, Lord.
My heart is longing to spend time in your holy dwelling.

Even sparrows  and swallows are your temple guests.
They build homes for their young near your altar.

Blessed are the people who live and work in your temple.
And blessed, too, are people who keep the memory of your temple in their hearts.

As they go through the troubles of life,
you give them strength to face the trials of each day.

Lord, one day within your temple
is better than a thousand anywhere else.

Dear God, thank you for special places of prayer

Acts 17

In Athens, Paul was sad see so much idol worship.
Each day he talked to as many people as he could about Jesus

He was invited to a meeting of intellectuals. He said to them
"The Creator of the world does not make his home in shrines made by human hands

He wants everyone to know him as the living God.
It is in him that we live and move and have life"

In its mother's womb, a baby lives and moves and has life.
The universe is like a giant womb, God's womb, in which we live and move and have life.
Jesus, please help me understand Paul's words

Matthew 17

A man went down on his knees and pleaded with Jesus:

"Lord, please help my son. He is crazy and does crazy things
like falling into fire and into water.
I asked your disciples to heal him but they were not able to."

There was an evil spirit oppressing the boy,
so Jesus ordered the spirit to leave the boy.
The boy was healed immediately.

Jesus' disciples asked him
"Why were we unable to expel that spirit?"

Jesus answered "Because your faith is not strong enough."

Jesus, please increase my faith,
so that my prayers can be of more help to other people
