V 2 asks us to read the Bible every day,   'to have a burning love'   for the Word of God              Resolution

O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today. 
May these passages give me hope, strength, wisdom, courage and peace for my daily life 

January 25, 2012  (interesting double: Gn 31 & Ps 31!)


Genesis 31     

Jacob said to Rachel and Leah

"You know how hard I have worked for your father,
yet he has treated me unfairly - ten times he changed my wages.
Now God has told me to go back to my own land.
So, get ready, we are going."

Jacob took his wives, children and livestock and left
 - without telling Laban.

Only after three days did Laban find out
that Jacob had outsmarted him.

Laban chased Jacob, 
but God told Laban not to hurt Jacob.

So Laban made a treaty with Jacob and let him go on his way.

Dear God, please help us to treat everyone fairly

Psalm 31

Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in distress.
My eyes are full of tears, my heart full of sorrow.

Everyone makes fun of me.
My friends don't want to know me.
Save me, Lord, from this mess.

I praise you Lord, for you protect those who trust you.
You keep them safe from slander and lies.

Be strong, let your heart take courage,
all you who  trust in the Lord

I trust in you, Lord. My life is in your hands

Acts 7

The meeting of religious leaders had falsely accused Stephen of being disloyal to Moses

So Stephen gave a long speech, full of loyalty to Moses.
Then he made a stinging attack on the leaders:
"You stubborn people, with your pagan hearts and pagan ears.
You are always resisting the Holy Spirit, just as your ancestors did.

Your ancestors killed the prophets who foretold the coming of the Just One. You have gone further: you have killed the Just One himself"

When the leaders heard these words, they were very angry and wanted to kill Stephen

Jesus, Just One from heaven, please don't let me resist the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit of God, please increase your influence in my life

Matthew 9

A prayer hall official came to Jesus and said
"My daughter has just died.
Please come and lay your hand on her and she will come back to life".

As Jesus and his friends were following the official to his home,
a woman who had a hemorrhage for 12 years
came up behind Jesus and touched his clothing.

The woman had said to herself
"If I can even touch his clothing, I will be healed".

Jesus knew what she was doing and said to her
"My daughter, your faith has healed you".
Instantly she was healed.

When Jesus arrived at the official's house
he saw a crowd of people crying loudly.

Jesus said to them "Get out of the house. The little girl is asleep ,
not dead".  The crowd laughed at Jesus.

After the crowd had gone outside, Jesus went inside.
He took the little girl by the hand, and she stood up.

News of what had happened spread all round the district.

Jesus, please increase my faith in your power to heal sick people
