V 2 asks us to read the Bible every day,   'to have a burning love'   for the Word of God              Resolution

This plan follows the Sunday liturgy:    reading + psalm + reading + gospel            From www.simplebible.info

O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today.
May these passages give me hope, strength, wisdom, courage and peace for my daily life

January 23, 2012

Genesis 28

Jacob went to the home of his uncle Laban, in Haran.

Laban had two daughters,
Leah and Rachel.
Jacob fell in love with Rachel.

Jacob made an agreement with Laban:
Jacob would work for Laban for seven years
in return for marriage to Rachel.

For Jacob,  the seven years went like a flash
because he loved Rachel so dearly.

But Laban forced Jacob to marry both Leah and Rachel
and made him work for another seven years as well.

Dear God, please help us to enjoy our work

Psalm 28

To you, O Lord, I call, my rock, hear me.
If you do not heed, I shall become like people in the grave.

Lord, you are my strength and my shield.
In you my heart trusts.

Thank you, Lord, for so often hearing my prayer.
I will always thank and praise you.

You are the strength of your people Israel.
Save your people. Be our shepherd and carry us for ever.

Lord, please help people who are in big danger today

Acts 6

About this time as the number of disciples kept growing, the twelve apostles decided to give other men the job of daily food distribution

The apostles said to the whole group of believers  "It is not right for us to neglect the service of the word. Therefore you should choose seven men of good reputation, filled with the Holy Spirit and with wisdom.
We give them the food  distribution job, so that we can devote ourselves to prayer and the service of the word"

The whole assembly approved of this idea. They chose seven men and presented them to the apostles who prayed over them with the laying on of hands

The word of the Lord continued to spread.
Even a large number of priests became believers

Jesus, please bless all deacons.
Fill them with the courage and wisdom of the first seven deacons

Chapter 9 (9 - 13)

One day when Jesus was walking past a customs house
he said to a tax collector  named Matthew "Follow me".
Matthew got up and followed Jesus.

Matthew invited Jesus and Jesus' friends to a dinner in his house.
Some tax collectors and  "bad" people sat at Jesus' table.

Religious leaders saw this and complained to Jesus' friends
"Why does your master eat with tax collectors and bad people?"

Jesus' answer was
"It is not the healthy who need the doctor, but the sick.

Go and think about the Bible words
'What I want is mercy, not sacrifice'.
I have a special concern for rejects and down-and-outs."

Jesus, please help religious leaders in today's world
to care more about people who are rejected by society
