Urgent message about Sri Lankan government forcefully deporting Pakistan asylum seekers

Dear Friends in the Sri Lankan Civil Society

As you may have aware that Sri Lankan government forcefully deporting Ahamadia , Christian and Shia Asylum seekers and Refugees  back to Pakistan. This is  violation of International Law , Human Rights  Law and Refugee Law as well as violation of non refoulement principle comes under  Customary International Law.

I am getting hundreds of calls  from asylum Seekers families and those who detained in Boossa. These  people  are detained for last 6 weeks in boossa  under TID . I was not permitted by TID to visit them and requested a  permission of Immigration Chief.

Immigration determined to deport all in detention in ten member group in every day and already 22 people were deported including 3 Christians, 18 ahamadias and 1 Shia Muslims . there are 240 or more people detained in Boossa and we have filed a write application and  will filed a FR on Monday.   All of thema are persecuted in Pakistan and killed in hundreds.

On Behalf of Rights Now , SANRIM and other Refugee actors and Lawyers we  decided to meet  on 5^th Tuesday at 6 PM at CSR  Please come  even though they are not Sri Lankans but live here and their Human Rights are our Human Rights.

9 Refugees from Pakistan ( 2 Christians and 7 Ahamdias ) and a family forcefully deported back to Pakistan this morning. They were all UNHCR registered refugees and they were kept in the notorious Detention Centre in Boossa. As per Manique Amarasinghe an officer form UNHCR revealed us this evening that UNHCR was not informed about this refoulement  well in advance and they were informed few hours back. What we were told by UNHCR this evening that Immigration hasn’t given any explanations over the deportations and UNHCR send a Strong letter to Immigration and  this was informed to Geneva UNHCR. These Pakistani person were send back by UL 184 air craft to Karachi. UNHCR told us that they informed the UNHCR Islamadbad about the move and in future there will be some alert form them in Karachi. Refugees telling that they heard that groups of 10 will be send  in everyday. This is a great violation of Human Rights and violation of International law.
Please start a campaigning against Sri Lankan Airlines and send emails and fax to Sri Lankan air lines not to carry refugees and asylum Seekers back to Karachi and tell them that if they continue to do there will be campaigns to stop fly by Sri Lankan Air lines.

Some activist already informed those who detained in Boossa to remove their top cloths and dress minimums  as then Authorities cannot take them in such manner and also Please write to Human Rights commission that these people are now subject to Torture.

I am getting so many calls from  refugees and asylum Seekers and they seek help and crying for  safety they are scared of hey families and their children, Authoritarian Sri Lankan government silent on the whole episode and we believe some foreign government influenced Sri Lankan government to take such drastic action which was a strange move though.

Today we met at the UNHCR as refugee advocates at 4.30 pm where 3 from Ahamadia community and two lawyers attended the meeting. UNHCR is not aware about the reasons behind this arrest and deportation. We see this as forceful reoulement and we have to object this.

SANRIM Filled a Write of certiorari and Mandamus to Squash the decision of Immigration last Friday and the case was heard on Wednesday and  Court of Appeal instruct to issue notice to immigration chief , Minister of Defense and Minister of External affirms.

SANRIM inform the advocates group that they will file another Fundamental Rights application against the same respondents on Monday. Hopefully case will be heard in Wednesday  ot Thursday.

I will together with Civil society organizations in Sri lanka will organize a protest and more campaigns to stop this . Few Newspapers  will carry this  in the weakened  news.

Police refuse to allow me to go to Boossa without the permission of Immigration chief where the letter is being sent to him for permission.
Sri Lanka only hear international pressure and there for I urge all my refuge friends and actors to pressure your governments and embassies to pressure Sri Lankan embassies and Government to stop the force deportation.
