Reading:  One Kings 8-9

When the temple was finished,
Solomon shifted the Sacred Chest to the temple.

After the Chest was placed in the temple,
the glorious cloud of the Lord filled the temple.

Solomon then praised God and blessed the people.
Solomon prayed that the temple would be
a place of blessings.

Solomon also prayed that all the peoples of the world
would come to know the Lord from whom all life comes.

The Lord again appeared to Solomon and said:
"I will be near to all who enter the temple you have built."

Reflection:
"The glorious cloud of the Lord" can be understood as the Holy Spirit

Prayer:
Dear God, may all temples and churches in the world
be places of blessings

Reading:  Psalms 114-115

When Israel came out of Egypt,
Jacob's descendents from an alien people,

Judah became the Lord's temple,
Israel became his kingdom.

Descendents of Israel, trust in the Lord.
He is our help and our shield.

To you may the Lord grant increase,
to you and all your children.

May you be blessed by the Lord,
the maker of heaven and earth.

Reflection:
The writers of the psalms often combined two themes, as in this psalm:
God's goodness to Israel  + make sure future generations know about that goodness

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for all your goodness.
Please help us pass on to future generations the knowledge of your goodness

Reading:  Revelation 22

Then an angel showed me the River of Life,
flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb,
flowing crystal-clear through the middle of the city

Here God's servants will worship him.
They will see him face to face,
and his name will be written on their foreheads

It will never be night again.
They will not need lamplight or sunlight,
because the Lord God will be shining on them

Reflection:
"The River of Life" is the Holy Spirit, the same Holy Spirit represented by a could in today's reading from One Kings, above

Prayer: Jesus, may your name be written on my forehead

Reading:  Matthew 11

John the Baptist sent some of his friends to ask Jesus
"Are you the promised Anointed One?"

Jesus replied
"Tell John what you hear and see:
blind people see, lame people walk, lepers are healed".

Jesus also said to the people around him
how neither John nor himself
could please the religious leaders.

"For John the Baptist always fasted and never drank wine,
and people said he was possessed.

I eat well and I drink wine
and people call me a glutton and a drunkard."

Reflection:
Jesus says that a sign of the Anointed is care for the blind, lame and lepers.
Pope Francis says that a sign of genuine Christianity is care for the poor

Prayer:  Jesus, please help me be someone who is easy to live with,
someone who is not hard to please
