Reading:  One Kings 1

When King David was very old and near the end of his life,
Absalom's brother Adonijah plotted to become king.

The prophet Nathan therefore advised Bathsheba
to go to David and remind him that he had promised
to let Bathsheba's son Solomon become king.

David then summoned the priests and royal guards
and ordered them and Nathan to anoint Solomon as king.

Reflection:
Right through history, in almost every nation, there have been plots/coups/assassinations ....by people/groups greedy for power.
We need to pray daily for good leaders

Prayer: Dear God, please give the world good leaders

Reading:  Psalm 10

My heart is ready, O God. I will sing, sing your praise.
Awake, lyre and harp. I will awake the dawn.

I will thank you, Lord, among the peoples,
praise you among the nations,

for your love reaches to the heavens
and your truth to the skies.

O Lord, come and deliver us today.
Help us with your right hand.

Give us help in difficult situations.
With your help we shall be brave.

Reflection:
With TV and the internet and other recent forms of entertainment,
people are going to bed later, and, when they can, getting up later and sleeping during the day. But when we have the chance and motivation, getting up early in the morning is a beautiful experience....the best time for reflection and prayer, especially in a setting that has trees, flowers, birds, a pool of water etc. So we read above how King David used to get up early and use his lyre and harp to pray

Prayer:  Lord, please help me sometimes get up early!

Reading:  Revelation 19

After this I heard the sound of a huge crowd in heaven singing: "Alleluia! Victory and glory and power to our God!"

The sound of the crowd  was like the sound of the ocean
or the roar of thunder as they called out:

"Alleluia! The reign of the Lord our God the Almighty has begun.
Let us be glad and joyful, and give praise to God,
because this is the time for the marriage of the Lamb"

And an angel said "Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb"

Reflection:
OK, so the Lamb is the Bridegroom, but who is the Bride?  Watch this space in two days time!

Prayer: Jesus, even on this earth, may I start to hear the sounds of heaven

Reading:  Matthew 9

A prayer hall official came to Jesus and said
"My daughter has just died. Please come and lay your hand on her
and she will come back to life".

As Jesus and his friends were following the official to his home,
a woman who had a hemorrhage for 12 years
came up behind Jesus and touched his clothing.

The woman had said to herself
"If I can even touch his clothing, I will be healed".

Jesus knew what she was doing and said to her
"My daughter, your faith has healed you".
Instantly she was healed.

When Jesus arrived at the official's house
he saw a crowd of people crying loudly.

Jesus said to them "Get out of the house. The little girl is asleep , not dead".  The crowd laughed at Jesus.

After the crowd had gone outside, Jesus went inside.
He took the little girl by the hand, and she stood up.

News of what had happened spread all round the district.

Reflection:
Both the prayer hall official and the ill woman had faith in Jesus. Not always, but nearly always in the Gospels, there's a link between faith and healing

Prayer:
Jesus, please increase my faith in your power to heal the sick and raise the dead
