  Reading:  Leviticus 18

Do not marry a close relative.

Do not have sex during time of menstruation.

Do not practise sodomy. 

Do not have sex with an animal.

Reflection:
If you Google "sex during menstruation" many sites will encourage people to "go for it". But then there's this site which says that sex during menstruation can cause heavier bleeding, and heavier bleeding can require a hysterectomy. There's wisdom in the above ancient sayings.

Prayer: Dear God, please help us to respect the gift of sex

Reading: Psalm 104

Bless the Lord, my soul!
Lord God, how great you are.

You make the clouds your chariot.
You walk on the wings of the wind.

You make springs gush forth in the valleys.
They give drink to all the animals of the field.

You make grass grow for the cattle
and plants to provide food for people.

You give us  wine, to cheer our hearts
and oil to make our faces shine.

You made the moon to mark the months.
The sun knows the time for its setting.

How many are your works, O Lord.
In wisdom you have made them all.

The earth is full of your riches
and the sea is swarming with life.

All things, great and small, look to you for food.
You open your hand, they have their fill.

You send forth your spirit, and life is created.
You renew the face of the earth.

I will sing to the Lord all my life.
May my thoughts be pleasing to him.

Reflection: 
One wise choice we can make, even if we live in a noisy, busy city:  
make a decision to notice flowers, trees, gardens as we pass them; notice the sounds of birds.  
After a while our noticing will become automatic
....and each sight of a lovely flower, each sound of a bird, will be picked up by our senses
...and give a little thrill of joy to our hearts
...which can lead on to a prayer to the One responsible for birds and flowers 

Prayer:  Lord, please help us more often notice the beauty of creation, and praise you for it

Reading:  1 Thessalonians 4

We urge you and appeal to you in the Lord Jesus to make more and more progress in the kind of life you are meant to live

God wants you to be holy. He wants you to keep away from fornication

Live life peacefully. Get a decent job and earn your living

Reflection:
When Gandhi met a closed door during his campaign for India's independence
....when there was nothing he could do for the moment to change external circumstances....he would look inside his heart and find some way he could improve as a person. He would always find some area of his life that needed improving

Prayer: Jesus, please help me be a better person, a better Christian

Reading:  Luke 12

Jesus said to his disciples "Be like people waiting for their master to return, ready to open the door as soon as he comes and knocks. Be ready, for I will come at an hour you do not expect

"When someone is given a great deal, of that person more will be expected"

Reflection: 
The best way to prepare to meet Jesus at the end of our lives is to live as well as we can each day....just like a student facing an exam at end of year: best way to prepare is to be a conscientious student right through the year

Prayer: Jesus, please help me to be a conscientious Christian right through the year
