  Reading:  Leviticus 16, 17

Instructions for the annual Day of Atonement:

Once a year Aaron or his successor must wear special vestments
and enter the sanctuary  past the veil.

Then he is to offer two goats to pray for atonement
for the whole community of Israel.

One goat will be sacrificed in the Temple;
the other is to be set free to go out into the desert -
a symbol of the people's sins being carried away.

Reflection:
T
his story gives us the English word scapegoat

Prayer:
Dear God, please don't let me turn other people into scapegoats for any wrong I may have done

Reading: Psalm 103

My soul, give thanks to the Lord.
All my being, bless his holy name.

My soul, give thanks to the Lord
and never forget all his blessings.

It is he who forgives all your guilt,
who heals every one of your ills.

It is he who fills your life with good things,
renewing your youth like an eagle's life.

The Lord is compassion and love,
slow to anger and rich in mercy.

As the heavens are high above the earth
so strong is his love for those who fear him.

As far as the East is from the West,
so far does he remove our sins.

As a father has compassion on his sons,
the Lord has pity on all who love and honor him.

Give thanks to the Lord, all his angels,
who heed the voice of his word.

Give thanks to the Lord, everyone and everything.
My soul, give thanks to the Lord!

Reflection:
This is one of the most beautiful psalms....good to use often, especially at times of thanksgiving

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for your love and compassion

Reading:  1 Thessalonians 3

May God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ make it easy for us to visit you again

May the Lord be generous in increasing your love, and make you love one another and the whole human race as much as we love you

May the Lord so confirm your hearts in holiness, that you may be blameless in the sight of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus Christ comes with all his saints

Reflection:
We can grown in height, in weight, in knowledge, in skills
.... and in love (which is what we pray at Mass: "May we grown in love, together with Francis our Pope, .... our bishop ...")

Prayer:
Jesus, please increase my love for you and for the whole human race

Reading:  Luke 12

Jesus said to his disciples "Do not worry about food and clothing

As regards food, think of  the birds. They don't sow or reap, and they have no homes to store things. Yet God feeds them

As regards clothing, think how the flowers grow with a beauty greater than that of Solomon's clothes. God will look after you more than he looks after the flowers

So, don't set your hearts on food and clothing. Don't go in for worry. Just set your hearts on God's kingdom, then food and clothing will not be a problem

Where your treasure is, that is where your heart will be too

Reflection:
Even in a busy city like Hong Kong, there are sparrows and doves to be seen in many places. Let the sight of them remind us of God who takes care of them ...and takes care of us

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me think of you when I see birds!
