  Reading:  Exodus 33

The Israelites continued their journey through the desert.

Wherever the people camped,
Moses would put the Sacred Tent outside,
some distance from the camp.

Whenever Moses went out to the Tent,
the pillar of cloud came down on the Tent
and God spoke with Moses face to face,
just like friends speak to each other.

The Israelites would go out to the Tent
for Moses to consult God for them.

Reflection:
It seems that the people had a limited idea of how they could talk to God directly ...without a go-between like Moses. And almost no idea that God was not a policeman but a Friend who, in Jesus, would one day say "I call you friends"

Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for your friendship

Reading: Psalm 92

It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to make music to your name, O Most High,

to proclaim your love in the morning,
and your truth right through the night.

Your deeds, O Lord, have made me glad.
For the work of your hands, I shout with joy.

To me you give the wild ox's strength.
You anoint me with the purest oil.

May we love and praise you right through our lives,
right till the end of our days.

May we keep on proclaiming your goodness,
proclaiming that in you, our rock, there is only goodness.

Reflection:
How readily and rightly we praise people who have done something special, like winning an Olympic medal.
How readily and rightly we should praise our Creator who made the universe and gave us life

Prayer: Lord, it is right and fitting to love and praise you

Reading:  Colossians 2

You must live your whole life according to the Christ you have received - Jesus the Lord

You must be built on him and held firm by the faith you have been taught

Make sure no one deceives you with any teaching based on the principles of this world instead of on Christ

Reflection:
How can we test a teaching to see if it is sound?  Some tests:
- does it agree with the Bible?
- does it agree with the teaching of the Church?
- is it agreeable to my conscience?

Jesus, please protect us from false teaching

Reading:  Luke 9

One day Jesus took his disciples Peter, James and John
up a high mountain to pray

On the mountain, while Jesus was praying, his whole appearance changed. His clothes became brilliant as lightning

The prophets Moses and Elijah appeared and spoke with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus "Lord, how good it is for us to be here!"

Then a bright cloud covered them with its shadow.
From the cloud came a voice:
"This is my Son, the Beloved. Listen to him"

When the voice had finished speaking, the disciples saw only Jesus in his normal appearance
