  Reading:  Exodus 28, 29

God said to Moses:

"Your brother Aaron and his sons will be priests in my service.

Make sacred vestments for them:
breastpiece, ephod, robe, tunic, turban and sash.

You must anoint Aaron and his sons
and consecrate them to serve me as priests.

Reflection:
There had been previous priests in the Bible: Melchizedek and Jethro,
but now there's an established structure ...a special group set aside for priestly duties....foreshadowing the Christian priesthood which also involves "anointing" and "consecration" with the "laying on of hands"

Prayer:
Dear God, please bless and protect all sacred ministers

Reading: Psalm 88

Lord my God, day and night I call to you for help.
Please turn your ear to my cry.

For my soul is filled with evils.
My life is on
the brink of the grave.

I am reckoned as one in the tomb.
I have reached the end of my strength.

Will your love be told in the grave?
Will your wonders be known in the dark?

Fear surrounds me like a flood.
They keep on assailing me.

All my friends have deserted me.
My only companion is darkness.

Reflection:
On the brink of the grave: people in the final stage of cancer; people tempted by suicide; people ravaged by drugs.

No friends: many drug addicts, AIDS patients, street sleepers, prisoners. We can use Ps 88 on their behalf

Prayer: Jesus, please help people who are at the end of their strength, people who are friendless. May they know your strength and peace. May they know your friendship

Reading:  Colossians  1

From Paul, appointed by God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus,
 to the Christians in Colossae.

Grace and peace to you from God our Father

I always pray for you and give thanks for your faith in Christ Jesus, and the love you show to others because of the hope which is stored up for you in heaven

The Good News is spreading all over the world, bringing blessings to so many people

 Reflection:
Many times in his letters Paul links faith, hope and love. One of his favorite "trifectas"

Prayer:
Jesus, increase my faith, hope and love. Help me  spread the Good News in my corner of the world

Reading:  Luke 9

Jesus called the 12 apostles together. He gave them power and authority to cast out devils and to heal sick people.

He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

So they set out and went from village to village proclaiming the Good News and healing sick people

Reflection:
Healing the sick was an essential part of Jesus' ministry.
Healing the sick should be an essential part of Christian ministry

Prayer: Jesus,  help me understand how I can pray better for sick people to be healed
