  Reading:  Exodus 2

Moses told the people:

"Don't be unfair to anyone, friend or foe.

Work for six days, then rest on the seventh day.

Work your land for six years,
then let the land rest and recover in the seventh year.

Three times a year you must celebrate special feasts:
the Feast of Unleavened Bread,
the Feast of Harvest,
the Feast of Ingathering.

On these three feasts
all men must present themselves before the Lord."

God's promise:

"I will send an angel before you to protect you
and bring you to the land I have prepared for you.

Eventually you will possess this special land
and take it over from the peoples who live there now."

Reflection:
A joint-venture: the Israelites and God.
A joint-venture: God and us.
A problem: when we forget our Partner

Prayer:
Dear God, please help us run our lives as a joint-venture with you from whom our lives come

Reading: Psalm 84

How lovely is your sacred temple, Lord.
My heart is longing to spend time in your holy dwelling.

Even sparrows  and swallows are your temple guests.
They build homes for their young near your altar.

Blessed are the people who live and work in your temple.
And blessed, too, are people who keep  the memory of your temple in their hearts.

As they go through the troubles of life,
you give them strength to face the trials of each day.

Lord, one day within your temple
is better than a thousand anywhere else.

Reflection:
God is everywhere...in Heaven...in our hearts...in the poor....in the Bible  ....but in a very special way God is present in a church or other place of prayer

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for special places of prayer

Reading:  Philippians 3

I am not yet perfect. I have not yet won the race.
But I am still running,
trying to capture the prize for which Christ Jesus captured me

I forget the past, and strain ahead for what is still to come.
I am racing for the finish,
for the prize to which God calls us to receive in Christ Jesus

 Reflection:
Some people live in the past, and the past is like a load on their back which they carry everywhere. Christians are not called to deny the past ....we are called to be honest about the past ....but more importantly we are called to keep thinking of the future, like a runner thinking of the finish line (..not like a runner always thinking of some time in the past when he fell over). If we are focused on the finish line we will run better each day

Prayer: Jesus, please help run well each day!

Reading:  Luke 8

One day Jesus told the people this story:

A farmer was planting seeds in his field.
Some seeds fell
on the path. Birds ate them

Some seeds fell on rocky ground.
They became sickly plants, without roots, and died

Some seeds fell among thorns.
When they became plants, they were choked by the thorns

Some seeds fell on good soil
and produced a rich harvest

People who hear God's word without good will
are like the seeds on the path.
They are easy prey for Satan

People who hear God's word only superficially
are like the seeds on rocky ground.
As soon as difficulties come, such people easily give up

People who hear God's word with one ear
but with the other are listening to the call of greed and pleasure
are like the seeds among thorns. Greed kills the word

People who hear God's word with good will and put it into practice
are like the good seeds which produced a rich harvest

Reflection:
Being good seed is no pushover...lots of obstacles and difficulties...
just like being a diligent student/worker is no pushover.....but with God's help and our good will we can be good students/workers/seeds

Prayer:
Jesus, please help us be good seeds!
