  Reading:  Exodus 17

In one place where there was no water
the people grumbled against Moses:
"Give us water to drink or else we will die."

Moses asked God for help
and God told Moses to strike a large rock with his staff.

When Moses did this, water flowed from the rock.

In another place the Israelites were attacked by the Amalekites.

Moses prayed while Joshua led the people in battle.

As long as Moses kept his arms raised up in prayer,
the Israelites were winning.

But when Moses let his arms down,
the Amalekites started winning.

So Aaron and Hur got Moses to sit on a rock
and they supported his hands until sunset.

Joshua and the people then won the battle.

Reflection:
The last part of this reading was the first reading at Mass yesterday.
Every time we pray for someone or something, we are like Moses with his hands extended. Jesus finished his life in the same way...praying for people...with his hands extended...on the Cross. Jesus is the Great Intercessor

Prayer: Dear God, please help us understand the power of prayer

Reading: Psalm 72

O Lord, please bless the king,
that he might serve your people with justice.

May the mountains bring forth peace for the people
and the hills, justice.

The kings of Sheba and Seba bring him gifts.
All nations will serve him.

He will save the poor when they cry for help
and
the needy who are helpless.

He will have pity on the weak
and save the lives of the poor.

May every tribe be blessed in him.
May every nation bless his name.

Reflection:
A king, a leader, who cares for the poor, the needy and the weak.
Pope Francis is such a leader. May all leaders, especially Christian leaders, be likewise

Prayer:
Lord, may all government and Church leaders care for the poor, the needy and the weak

Reading:  Philippians 1

From Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the believers in the Church at Philippi

We wish you the grace and peace of  God our Father and of the Lord Jesus Christ

I thank God whenever I think of you. Every time I pray for you, I pray with joy, remembering how you helped to spread the Good News

You have a permanent place in my heart. God knows how much I miss you. I love you as Christ Jesus loves you

My prayer is that your love for each other will increase more and more, helping you always to know what is good and to avoid what is bad

Reflection:
"A permanent place in my heart" reminds me of the beautiful movie Places in the Heart   - final scene of movie here on YouTube

Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for all the people who have a permanent place in my heart

Reading:  Luke 6

In his teaching, Jesus said "Why do you call me 'Lord', yet do not do what I ask you to do?

Anyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice is like a man who built his house on a solid foundation. That house was so well built that even floods could not damage it

But anyone who listens and does not put my words into practice is like a man who built his house without a foundation. As soon as floods came, the house collapsed"

Reflection:
Putting Jesus' words into practice means following the Culture of Compassion,  generosity, goodness....the Culture of Life.
Not putting Jesus' words into practice means following the Culture of Selfisness, calousness, evil ....the Culture of Death

Prayer:
Jesus, please help me put your words into practice; help me apply them in my daily life
