Reading:  Genesis 50  (the final chapter)

After mourning their father for 70 days
Joseph and his brothers  went to Canaan and buried  Jacob there.
Many of Pharaoh's officials went with Joseph to Canaan.

When the group returned to Egypt,
Joseph's brothers again asked him to forgive them
for selling him as a slave.

Joseph replied "God has turned this evil into good,
and through me has helped many people.
So do not be afraid.
I will provide for you and your families".

Joseph lived to see his children's children.
Before he died, he asked that his bones one day
be taken back to Canaan.

Reflection:
Our God "turns evil into good" or as the New Testament puts it, brings good out of evil ...not that evil should be done in order to produce good, but if the "card" of evil is played, God can always trump it

Prayer: Dear God, please trump the evil in our world, especially the evil of war

Reading: Psalm 34

I will bless the Lord at all times,
his praise always on my lips.

In the Lord my soul shall make its boast,
the humble shall hear and be glad.

Glorify the Lord with me, together let us praise his name.
I sought the Lord and he answered me.
From all my terrors he set me free.

The angel of the Lord is encamped around those who revere the Lord, to rescue them.

Taste and see that the Lord is good.
They are happy who seek refuge in him.

The Lord is close to the broken-hearted.
Those whose spirits are crushed he will save.

Reflection:
You Tube: Taste and see the goodness of the Lord

Prayer: Lord, by our Bible reading and prayer,
may we taste and see your goodness each day

Reading:  Ephesians 1

I never fail to remember you in my prayers
and to thank God for you

May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
give you more and more wisdom and knowledge
to see ever more clearly his great love for you

May he enlighten your mind to hope for the glorious life
he has prepared for us in heaven

Reflection:
A strong Biblical and Christian tradition: to "remember people in our prayer", to pray for people, especially those nearest and dearest to us ... and those with special needs

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, please bless and protect all those on my special prayer list ....the ones I pray for each day

Reading:  Luke 4

Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness.
For 40 days he ate nothing, and was tempted by the Devil

The Devil said "If you are the Son of God, turn a stone into bread".
Jesus replied "Scripture says we do not live on bread alone"

The Devil took him to a high place and showed him all the kingdoms of the world. "Worship me and they will all be yours" he said.
Jesus replied "Scripture says we must worship only God"

Then the Devil took him to the top of the Temple in Jerusalem and said "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down and let the angels protect you"

Jesus replied "Scripture says we must not put the Lord our God to the test".   The Devil then left him

Reflection:
Notice that "Devil" = "D" + "evil".
"D" for "deception".
All evil in the world has some sort of link to the Devil,
just as all good in the world has a link to God

Prayer: Jesus,  protect  us from the Devil and all evil
