  Reading:  Genesis 42

In Joseph's home country of Canaan,
the famine was very severe.

Joseph's father Jacob said to his sons
"I hear there is grain for sale in Egypt.
Go to Egypt and buy grain for our families
so that we will  not die".

All Joseph's brothers, except Benjamin,  went to Egypt
and arrived at the place where Joseph was selling grain.

The brothers had not seen Joseph for about 20 years
and they didn't recognize him.  But Joseph recognized them.

Joseph put them to the test: he said they were spies,
and he told them to bring Benjamin to Egypt
to prove they were not spies.

He kept Simeon in prison until they returned with Benjamin.

Reflection:
One thing I often wondered about: why didn't Joseph try to contact his family all these years?  He must have known his father was grieving for him. Anyone any thoughts on this?  (please use comment link at top of page)

Prayer: Dear God, please help any places in the world
 which are suffering from famine

Reading: Psalm 27

The Lord is my light and my help, whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life, before whom shall I shrink?
Though an army encamp against me, even then would I trust.

There is one thing I ask of the Lord, for this I long:
to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

It is your face, O Lord, that I seek. Hide not your face.
I am sure I will see your goodness in the land of the living.

Hope in the Lord, hold firm and take heart. Hope in the Lord!

Reflection:
Remembering God's protection in this life,
longing for God's presence in the life to come,
....gives us hope and courage for each day

Prayer: Lord, please increase my remembering, my longing .... and my hope

Reading:  Galatians 5

Serve one another in works of love, since the whole of the Law is summed up in the command "Love your neighbor as yourself"

If you go in for non-stop criticism and personal attacks, you will destroy the church community

Reflection:
Can I go through even one day....16 hours...without criticising someone?!

Prayer: Jesus, help me avoid unfair/unnecessary criticism of other people

Reading:  Luke 2

After the angels went away, the shepherds said to one another
"Let's go to Bethlehem and see what the Lord has told us about"

So they quickly went and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. People who heard the shepherds talk about the angels were amazed

As for Mary, she treasured every moment of what had happened
and pondered the whole event in her heart

The shepherds went back to their fields glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen

Reflection:
Eternity has entered time, the Creator has taken on the nature of a creature.
Like the shepherds, let us go to Bethlehem to pay our homage

Prayer: Jesus we adore you, Jesus we adore you, Jesus we adore you,
Christ the Lord
