  Reading:  Genesis 28

When Rebecca sent Jacob to Haran,
she and Isaac told Jacob to find a wife in Haran.

While Jacob was on his way to Haran,
God appeared to him in a dream and said to him
"I will keep you safe wherever you go,
and I'll bring you back
safely to your own land."

Reflection:
In many, make that most, Chinese homes, there's a sign:
出入平安  "Go out and come back in safety"

Prayer: Dear God, please keep us safe wherever we go

Reading: Psalm 6

Have mercy on me, Lord, I have no strength.
My body is
racked with pain. Please heal me, Lord.

I am exhausted with my groaning.
Every night  my pillow is covered  with tears.

Lord, please hear my prayer.

Reflection:
Yesterday when visiting the custodial section of a hospital....I met a lady who is racked with pain....stomach cancer

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help people who are in distress of mind or body...especially A-Lin

Reading:  2 Corinthians 5

The love of Jesus is like a tsunami.
It overwhelms us and sweeps us away
when we remember how he died for everyone

God, through Jesus, has repaired his friendship with humanity.
We must spread the news of this reconciliation

Reflection/Prayer:
"And when I think, that God his Son not sparing,
sent him to die, I scarce can take it in"

(- from the song "How Great Thou Art")

Reading: Mark 15

Jesus was put on the cross sometime after  9am.
From about noon until 3pm there was darkness over all the land

About 3pm Jesus cried out the words of Psalm 22
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

A little while later he again cried out in a loud voice.
Then he died. At that moment the holy curtain in the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom

The leader of the Roman soldiers who crucified Jesus, when he saw how Jesus died, said "Truly this man was a son of God"

Reflection/Prayer: (repeat from above)
"And when I think, that God his Son not sparing,
sent him to die, I scarce can take it in"

- from the song "How Great Thou Art"
