  Reading:  Genesis 22

Abraham loved God very dearly

Once when God put him to the test
Abraham was even willing to sacrifice his only son Isaac
if that was what God wanted.

When God saw Abraham's love and obedience
God renewed his promise
to make Abraham and Isaac's descendants
as many as the stars of heaven

Reflection:
Abraham's sadness and mental suffering must have been extreme as he prepared to sacrifice his only child....a tiny, human glimpse at the love (the sadness?) of God the Father as he did in fact sacrifice his only Son for the salvation of the world

Prayer: Dear God, please help us love and obey you

Reading: Psalm 2

Why are the nations revolting against God?
Why won't the nations accept God?

O kings and rulers of the nations, listen to God's voice.
Serve the Lord with love and honor.

Blessed are the nations that love the Lord

Reflection:
Accepting and loving God has a big effect on the life of an individual.
Accepting and loving God has a big effect on the life of a nation

Prayer: Let all the nations love you, Lord. Let all the nations love you

Reading:  1 Corinthians 16

I hope to visit you after I have been to Macedonia.

I will stay at Ephesus until Pentecost, because an important door
has opened for my work, despite opposition

Be brave and strong. Let everything be done in love

The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you

Reflection:
Paul would have made a good businessman - he was quick to see and take any  opportunity for spreading the Gospel.

Prayer: Jesus, help me see and take more opportunities for helping other people know about you

Reading: Mark 14

Peter went to the place where the religious leaders had Jesus on trial.
A young woman in the courtyard of the place  said to him
"You were with Jesus, the man from Nazareth"

Peter replied "I don't know what you're talking about"

Peter went to the gateway of the place, where the woman saw him again and said to people around her "This man is one of them".
Peter denied it

Not long after this a group of people said to Peter
"You are his friend. We can tell by your Galilean accent".
Then Peter even more strongly replied "I do not know the man"

At that very moment, a rooster crowed.
Peter remembered Jesus' words "Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times".   Peter then wept loudly

Reflection:
Peter had boasted he would lay down his life for Jesus.
An empty boast. When Jesus was in great danger, Peter let him down

Prayer Jesus, please give me the courage not to let people down
