  Reading:  Genesis 18

One day at Mamre, God and two angels appeared to Abraham.
At first, God and the angels looked like men.

Following the ancient custom of hospitality
Abraham prepared a feast for them.

God told Abraham that the town of Sodom was going to be destroyed  because of the evil done there.

Abraham pleaded with God not to destroy Sodom.
God agreed to postpone Sodom's destruction for a while.

Reflection:
From the town of Sodom and "the evil done there" comes the name
Sodomy

Prayer: Dear God, please help people avoid sodomy

Reading: Psalm 148

Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights.

Praise him all his angels,
praise him all his spirits.

Praise him, sun and moon,
praise him, shining stars.

Let them praise the name of the Lord.
His word gave life to all of them.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
sea creatures and all oceans.

Praise him fire and hail, snow and mist,
stormy winds that obey his word.

Praise him all mountains and hills,
all fruit trees and cedars.

Praise him all animals, wild and tame,
reptiles and birds in the air.

Praise him all earth's kings and peoples,
earth's princes and rulers.

Praise him young men and maidens,
old people together with children.

Let them praise the name of the Lord.
He is the praise of all who love him.

Reflection:
We praise movie stars, pop stars and sports stars....but way and above all of these
we should praise the One who made the stars of heaven

Prayer: Lord our God and Creator, you are worthy of all praise

Reading:  1 Corinthians 15

I am the least of the apostles.
In fact, since I persecuted the Church of God, I hardly deserve the name apostle

But by God's grace I am what I am, and the grace that he gave me has not been fruitless

On the contrary, I, or rather the grace of God in my heart,
have worked harder than any of the others,
preaching the same message that they preach

Reflection:
Each of us has been given many graces by the Good Lord,
many gifts, talents, opportunities, second chances etc.
c.f. parents and teachers who give their children/students everything good they need,
every help they need etc ...but not all children/students respond as well as they should
....often wasting their parents'/teachers' efforts

Prayer: Jesus, may your grace in me be more fruitful

Reading: Mark 14

After the meal, Jesus said to his apostles
"Tonight all of you will desert me"

Peter said "I will never desert you".
Jesus replied "Tonight before the rooster crows,
you will deny me three times"

They came to a place with olive trees called Gethsemane.
Jesus asked Peter, James and John to pray with him

Jesus was overcome with sadness and fear.
He said to them "Sadness is filling my heart, as if my heart is dying.
Please support me as I pray"

Then he fell on his face and prayed for about an hour:
"Father, don't let this suffering continue. But your will be done"

He stood up and found that the apostles were asleep.
He said to them "Couldn't you stay awake one hour to support me?"

Three times he prayed the same way.
Three times the apostles went to sleep.

Then he said "Get ready.  The one who is betraying me is coming"

Reflection:
We often remember Jesus' physical suffering, but we tend to forget his mental suffering.
No human person has ever experienced the mental suffering that afflicted Jesus

Prayer Jesus, please heal people who are having mental health problems
