Readings for the Feast of Saint Lawrence
1st Reading: farming words about sowing and seeds ...to go with theme of today's Gospel
Responsorial Psalm: the best type of seeds - good deeds
Gospel: St Lawrence's death like that of a seed dying ... to yield a rich harvest
Reflection:
Whatever the truth about the story
of Lawrence being BBQed ....and remarking "I'm done on this side,
turn me over"
....the reason for his martrydom is worth remembering: instead of handing over
the church's treasures to the authorities, he gave the treasures to the
poor. This was the final act in his life of service to the poor
Prayer

Jesus, may my life contain more service
of the poor, right up to my final days
(p.s. ...without a BBQ!)
