  Reading:  Hosea 4

People of Israel,
listen to the word of the Lord:

there is no fidelity, no tenderness,
no knowledge of God in the country,

only perjury and lies, slaughter, theft,
adultery, violence and murder.

This is why the country is in mourning.
This is why you have experienced so much disaster.

My people, says the Lord,
perish for want of knowledge.

Reflection:
When moral values go out the window,
life becomes a pain (pane)

Prayer:
Lord, please help us lead good lives,
and so help our country experience blessing

Reading:  Psalm 122

I rejoiced when I heard them say
"Let us go to God's house."

And now our feet are standing
within your gates, O Jerusalem.

For the peace of Jerusalem pray
"Peace be to your homes."

For love of the house of the Lord
I will ask for your good.

Reflection:
"Jerusalem" can mean the city in Israel. It can mean the Church. It can mean an individual church. It can mean any special group of believers. It can mean Mary, the mother of Jesus. It can mean Heaven.

Prayer: Lord, may your Heavenly Jerusalem's peace be in our hearts and homes...and on all "Jerusalems" of this earth

Reading:  Romans 13

Be a good citizen. Respect all civil authorities.
Authority comes from God and is answerable to God

Don't break laws. Live honestly.
Fulfill your obligations as a citizen. Pay your taxes.

Reflection:
Christians should be model citizens.
Christians should not be lawbreakers.
A place imbued with Christian values should not need prisons.
c.f. Lourdes...when I was there in 1982 I heard it had a population of 30,000
but very few policemen

Prayer: Jesus, please help me be a good citizen

Reading: Mark 8

In the village of Bethsaida, a blind man was brought to Jesus.
His friends begged Jesus to touch him.

Jesus took the man by the hand and led him outside the town.
Jesus put spittle on the man's eyes
and placed his hands on the man's eyes.

"Can you see anything?" asked Jesus. The man was starting to see and replied "I can see people. They look like trees, but they are walking about".

Jesus then placed his hands on the man's eyes again, and he saw clearly. He was healed and could see everything clearly.

Reflection:
Each time we read this passage, let's pray for someone we know who is blind.
Today I will pray especially for a blind inmate in HK I have often visited

Prayer: Jesus, please heal my friend ....(name)...who is blind
