  Reading:  Hosea 1-3

God said to Hosea "Marry a prostitute and have children by her,
for my people have abandoned me and become unfaithful".

The Lord's people are like his wife,
but they have abandoned him.

Hosea's wife was unfaithful to him and left him.
But the Lord told Hosea to take her back.

This was to show how God welcomes people back,
even though they have been unfaithful to him.

Reflection:
A good introduction to Hosea

Prayer:
Lord, please help us to be faithful to you

Reading:  Psalms 120, 121

I call to the  Lord in the hour of my distress:
"Lord save me from people who speak with lying lips".

Long enough have I been dwelling with those who hate peace.
I am for peace, but they are for fighting.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains.
From where shall come my help?

My help shall come from the Lord
who made heaven and earth.

The Lord is our guard and our shade.
Day and night we shall not be afraid.

The Lord will guard our going and coming
both now and forever.

Reflection:
Day and night God is our help. Always on duty. No holiday for millions of years?
Someone joked that in order to have a rest, Father, Son and Holy Spirit each do 8-hour shifts! But their help for us is like that of a mother for her baby: 24/7 when needed

Prayer: Lord, please protect us from danger, day and night

Reading:  Romans 12

Pray for people who are unkind to you. Be kind to them.
Rejoice with those who are happy. Console people who are sad

Treat everyone with kindness. Never be condescending.
Make real friends with the poor

Do all you can to live at peace with everyone. Resist evil and conquer it with good

Reflection:
"Make real friends with the poor" is what Pope Francis keeps speaking about.
Each of us can ask: "How many poor friends do I have?"

Prayer: Jesus, please help me make real friends with the poor ....as you did...as Cardinal Bergoglio did in Argentina

Reading: Mark 7

Jesus traveled through the area south of the Sea of Galilee.
A deaf man with a speech impediment was brought to him.

Jesus took the man aside in private, away from the crowd.
He put his fingers into the man's ears and put spittle on his tongue.

Then he prayed and said "Be opened".
The man's ears were opened and his speech became normal.

The people said "He has done all things well. He makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak".

Reflection:
Each time we read this passage, let's pray for someone we know who is "deaf and dumb".
I'm currently praying for a "deaf and dumb" inmate from China who I see each week in a HK detention centre

Prayer: Jesus,  heal (..name..) who is "deaf and dumb"
