  Reading:  Daniel 8-12

Daniel received many visions from God,
usually after a special time of prayer and fasting.

Daniel was given glimpses of the future,
the rise and fall of nations.

He also was given to understand what happens after this life:

"The dead will rise from the grave,
some to everlasting life,
some to everlasting shame.

Those who have instructed others in virtue,
will shine like stars for all eternity."

Reflection:
As time went on, the Old Testament writers express an ever clearer understanding that after this life there is another life.
We too, as the years go on, should also be forming a clearer picture of "the other side of the veil"

Prayer:
Lord, please help everyone get to Heaven

Reading:  Psalm 117

O Praise the Lord, all you nations.
Acclaim him, all you peoples!

Strong is his love for us.
He is faithful for ever.

Reflection:
One of my favourite psalms
.....on the cover of Old Testament Simple Bible in English and in Chinese.
Also on my anniversary card of 1998

Prayer: May all the nations love and praise you, Lord

Reading:  Romans 10-11

If your lips confess that Jesus is Lord,
and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
then you will be saved

How wonderful is God!  How great his wisdom and knowledge.
What finite creature could ever understand the mind of our infinite Creator?

All that exists comes from him. To him be glory for ever!

Reflection:
"If your lips confessed that Jesus is Lord" meant you were doing something dangerous in Paul's time.
See this article

Prayer: Jesus, please help me bravely witness to you, despite opposition/ridicule etc

Reading: Mark 6

When Jesus got out of the boat on the other side of the lake,
people recognized him and news of his presence spread quickly.
From all around that area, sick people were brought to him.

Wherever he went, to village or town or farm, they laid down the sick in open spaces,
begging him to let them touch even the fringe of his cloak.

All those who touched him were healed

Reflection:
Not "a few of those who touched him", not "some of those who touched him", not "many of those who touched him",
but "
all of those who touched him" ....were healed

Prayer: Jesus, please heal my sick friends ...(names)... by letting them,
through prayer, touch your clothing
