 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   July 2, 2013
With readers' comments, below

  Reading:  Ezekiel 35-48

Through Ezekiel, God kept calling on the people
to turn from their sins and remember their Creator.

God said he would bring back Israel's exiles to their homeland.
He would give them a new start in life,
like a skeleton coming back to life.

God said the people would re-build the Temple in Jerusalem,
and religious practice would once again flourish.

The people would once again remember God.
The people would once again be blessed by the Lord.

Reflection:
God's basic policy: if at first you don't succeed, start again....and again....and again

Prayer:
Lord, please help nations which have forgotten you to come back to you

Reading:  Psalm 111

I will thank the Lord with all my heart.
Great are the works of the Lord,
to be pondered by all who love him.

His goodness stands firm for ever.
The Lord is compassion and love.

His precepts are for all peoples and all times.
He is to be honored by all nations.

To love and honor the Lord
is the beginning of wisdom.

Reflection:
Wisdom can't be obtained from a supermarket or downloaded from the internet.
It has only one source: God.  Just like genuine sunshine has only one source: the sun

Prayer:  Dear Lord, source of wisdom, please help me to love and honor you every day

Reading:  Romans 8

Everyone moved by the Spirit is a child of God.
The Spirit lets us use children's language to speak to God  tenderly as "Abba, Father"

Since we are God's children, we are also his heirs, coheirs with Jesus,
sharing his suffering so as to share his glory

What we suffer in this life can never be compared with the glorious  life we will have in heaven

The whole of creation looks forward to sharing the same glory, to sharing immortality

Reflection:  One of my favourite songs:
Everyone moved by the Spirit (YouTube)

Prayer: Abba, Father, may everyone love and honor you. Help everyone get to heaven

Reading: Mark 6

Jesus and his disciples went to his home town of Nazareth.
On the Sabbath he went to the prayer hall and began teaching.

People in the prayer hall were astonished at his teaching.
"Who does he think he is?" they asked.
"He is just a carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, Joset, Jude and Simon.
His sisters also are here."
And they would not accept him.

So Jesus said to them
"A prophet is despised only in his own country "

Because of their lack of faith, Jesus cured only a few sick people there.
He was amazed at the lack of faith in Nazareth.

Reflection:
Not always, but usually: a link between healing and faith

Prayer: Jesus, please increase my faith ...and don't let me despise other people
