 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   July 1, 2013
With readers' comments, below

  Reading:  Ezekiel 33-34

God told Ezekiel to say this to Israel's leaders:

"Punishment is coming for you shepherds who have fed yourselves
but not looked after the sheep.

You have failed to make the weak sheep strong,
or to care for the sick ones.

You have failed to bring back stray sheep
or look for lost sheep.

On the contrary, you have been cruel to the sheep
and treated them badly.

Therefore I will look after my flock myself.
I will rescue them from where they have been scattered.

I will look for the lost one, bring back the stray,
bandage the injured, and make the weak strong.

I will also judge the sheep themselves.
I will judge the fat sheep which have bullied the weak sheep.

I will raise up a special shepherd
and put him in charge of all my sheep."

Reflection:
Leaders are supposed to be good shepherds, like God himself.

Prayer:
Lord, please help all leaders care for their people,
like Jesus the Good Shepherd

Reading:  Psalms 109-110

O God whom I praise, do not be silent,
for people are bombarding me with words of hate.

They speak to me with lying tongues
and attack me without cause.

They repay me evil for good.
While I pray for them,  they show me hatred.

I have become an object of scorn.
Help me, Lord my God.

Reflection:
When people send words of hate in our direction, let's do what Jesus on the Cross did:
send words of forgiveness in the direction of Heaven.

Prayer:  Lord, when people are unkind to me,
please give me the grace to pray for them

Reading:  Romans 8

You are on God's team. God the Father is the manager.
Jesus is the captain.
The Holy Spirit is the coach, a coach living in your heart

If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead, is living in you,
then he who raised Jesus from the dead will help you live a risen life

By the grace of the Holy Spirit you can stop doing bad things

Reflection:
What a manager, captain and coach!

Prayer: Holy Spirit of Jesus, Holy Spirit of the Father, please help me be a good member of Jesus' team

Reading: Mark 5

A prayer hall official, Jairus, fell at Jesus' feet and pleaded
"My little daughter is dying. Please come and lay your hands on her and save her life".

While Jesus was on the way to Jairus' home,  people arrived and told Jairus "Your daughter is dead.
No need to trouble the Master any further".

Jesus heard this and said to Jairus "Do not be afraid. Just have faith".
Jesus allowed only Peter, James and John to go with him.

At Jairus' home, everyone was weeping and wailing.
Jesus said to them "Why all this crying? The child is not dead, but asleep".
Everyone laughed at him.

So he got them all to leave.
Then taking the girl's parents and his 3 companions, he went to the place where the child was lying.

Taking the girl by the hand he said to her "Little girl, I tell you to get up".
The little girl got up at once.  She was 12 years old.

Reflection:
Jesus went ahead and helped Jairus' daughter, even though people laughed at him.
When people laugh at me, will I still help them?

Prayer: Jesus, please don't let ridicule stop me from helping people
