 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   June 28, 2013
With readers' comments, below

  Reading:  Ezekiel 19-32

Ezekiel continued to speak God's message:

"Since my people have forgotten me and followed false ways,
therefore they will be scattered around the world.

But eventually my people and peoples of all nations
will learn that I alone am their Creator, their God.

Reflection:
"All nations", "all peoples" - often used in the prophets, reminding us that God is not just God of the Jewish people, but God of all peoples.  c.f. Jesus "baptise all nations".   Every Christian must have a concern for "all peoples"

Prayer:
Lord, please help all peoples know and love you

   Reading:  Psalm 108

My heart is ready, O God. I will sing, sing your praise.
Awake, lyre and harp. I will awake the dawn.

I will thank you, Lord, among the peoples,
praise you among the nations,

for your love reaches to the heavens
and your truth to the skies.

O Lord, come and deliver us today.
Help us with your right hand.

Give us help in difficult situations.
With your help we shall be brave.

Reflection:
With TV and the internet and other recent forms of entertainment,
people are going to bed later, and, when they can, getting up later and sleeping during the day.
But when we have the chance and motivation, getting up early in the morning is a beautiful experience....the best time for reflection and prayer, especially in a setting that has trees, flowers, birds, a pool of water etc. So we read above how King David used to get up early and use his lyre and harp to pray

Prayer:  Lord, please help me sometimes get up early!

Reading:  Romans 7

Even though I'm on God's team, I don't always play as well as I should.
At times I cannot understand my behavior.
I fail to do good things, and I find myself doing bad things

It's as if there is a battle going on inside me.
In my heart I dearly love God, but my will is weak, and I do things that I know are wrong

Who can help me keep going? Who can fix up things in my life?

Jesus can. He is the one who sorts out things in my life, and changes chaos into order, by the working of the Holy Spirit

Reflection:
The above words are a humble description of the fact that everyone makes mistakes,
just like on a sports team....everyone at time makes mistakes.
Best idea...keep playing....don't stop playing in order to think about mistakes!

Prayer: Jesus, my life is in your hands. Please arrange my life the way you want to

Reading: Mark 5

A large crowd gathered around Jesus near the side of the Sea of Galilee.
In the crowd was a woman who had suffered from bleeding  for 12 years.
She had spent all her money on doctors, but they  had been unable to help her.

She had heard about Jesus. She came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak.
"If I can touch even his clothes, I will be healed" she said to herself.

As soon as she touched Jesus' cloak, the source of the bleeding dried up at once.
Aware that power had gone out from him, Jesus turned round and said "Who touched me?"

The woman fell at his feet and told her story.
Jesus said "My daughter, your faith has restored you to health. Go in peace and be free from your illness".

Reflection:
By touching Jesus, the woman was making him ritually unclean - according to Jewish law.
By making the healing public, Jesus was restoring the woman to contact with the community.
