 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   June 21, 2013
With readers' comments, below

  Reading:  Baruch 1-2

The message of Baruch, written in Babylon for the exiles living there,
and sent to Jerusalem for the people still there:

Let us pray that our genuine service for the king of Babylon
will win his favor and protection.

To us belongs a look of shame, because we have not listened
to the message of the Lord our God.

Lord, please listen to our prayer.
Rescue us from exile and humiliation.

Reflection:
As a result of the sex-abuse issue in the Church, the leadership can say
To us belongs a look of shame ....and the leadership needs to pray:

Prayer:
Dear God, please rescue your Church from humiliation
....what has been darkened, you please heal with light

   Reading:  Psalm 102

My soul, give thanks to the Lord.
All my being, bless his holy name.

My soul, give thanks to the Lord
and never forget all his blessings.

It is he who forgives all your guilt,
who heals every one of your ills.

It is he who fills your life with good things,
renewing your youth like an eagle's life.

The Lord is compassion and love,
slow to anger and rich in mercy.

As the heavens are high above the earth
so strong is his love for those who fear him.

As far as the East is from the West,
so far does he remove our sins.

As a father has compassion on his sons,
the Lord has pity on all who love and honor him.

Give thanks to the Lord, all his angels,
who heed the voice of his word.

Give thanks to the Lord, everyone and everything.
My soul, give thanks to the Lord!

Reflection:
This is one of the most beautiful psalms....good to use often, especially at times of thanksgiving

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for your love and compassion

Reading:  Romans 4

Remember our ancestor Abraham. He put his faith in God,
and this was how he became holy

We too must put our faith in God the Father who raised Jesus from the dead to make us holy

Reflection:
At Mass one prayer speaks about "Abraham our father in faith".
Our faith family tree goes back to Abraham.
If someone asks "How far can you trace back your family tree?", we can answer
"back to Abraham"!

Prayer: Jesus, please increase my faith. Help me believe like Abraham

Reading: Mark 3

Jesus went again to the Sea of Galilee.
Great crowds of people from all over the country went to him.
They had heard what he was doing and wanted to see him.

Large crowds of  sick people pushed forward, trying to touch Jesus.
They had heard how he had healed so many sick people.

Reflection:
May the healing ministry become as common today as it was in the early Church
....and encourage many people to come to Jesus

Prayer: Jesus, please heal my friend ....(name)....who is sick
