O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today.

 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   June 16, 2013

Readings for the 11th Sunday of the Year (C)

1st Reading:  The prophet Nathan confronts King David about adultery and murder

Responsorial Psalm:  Prayer asking for forgiveness

2nd Reading:  External observance of laws is important, but more important is an observant heart

Gospel:  Forgiveness of sins and great love go together

Reflection:
People can keep all of the Ten Commandments yet not have much love in their hearts
....e.g. the religious leaders of Jesus' time.
Very often people who have trouble with some of the Ten Commandments have much love in their hearts
...e.g. King David....and the woman in today's Gospel

Which is why Pope Francis recently said that being a genuine Christian is not just about externals (e.g. counting how many times I say certain prayers) but more importantly about a heart that has compassion for others

Prayer:
Dear Jesus, please let our Christianity be a matter of the heart, not just a matter of external pracices
