 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   June 13, 2013
With readers' comments, below

    Reading:  Jeremiah 32

Jerusalem was about to be captured by the Chaldaeans.
But God  promised that Jerusalem would recover its freedom.

As a sign that Jerusalem would be free again,
God told Jeremiah to buy a field.

People thought Jeremiah was crazy.
But through this action Jeremiah delivered God's message:

This city and this land are now a waste,
but soon people will again buy land and build homes
in freedom and safety

Reflection:
In places in the world which are now
a waste after war
may
people soon again buy land and build homes
in freedom and safety

Prayer:
Lord, when things get really bad, please increase our trust
that you will turn things around in our lives

Reading:   Psalm 96

O sing a new song to the Lord.
Sing to the Lord, all the earth.
O sing to the Lord, bless his name.

Proclaim his help day by day.
Tell among the nations his glory,
and his wonders among all the peoples.

It was the Lord who made the heavens.
Give the Lord, you families of peoples,
give the Lord glory and honor.

Bring an offering and enter his temple.
Worship the Lord in his sacred place.

Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad.
Let the sea and all within it thunder praise.

Let the land and all it bears rejoice,
all the trees of the forest shout for joy.

Everyone and everything,
give the Lord glory and honor.

Reflection:
We praise and admire artists/writers/poets/musicians for their beautiful work.
How much more we should admire and praise the Artist of heaven and earth...and ourselves

Prayer: Lord, you are our Creator. We love and praise you

Reading:  Acts 28

Not long after his arrival in Rome, Paul had a meeting with a large number of Jews.
The meeting went from early morning until evening

Paul talked to them about the kingdom of God.
He tried to help them believe in Jesus. Some accepted Jesus

Paul was in detention for two years, in his own rented house.
He welcomed everyone who came to visit him.
With boldness and without hindrance, he taught people about the Lord Jesus Christ

Reflection:
Even in prison, Paul proclaimed Jesus. Till his dying day, till his last breath,
he had a passion to help people know their Saviour

Prayer:
Jesus, thank you for the Acts of the Apostles. May I help more people know and love you, like Paul

Reading: Mark 1

Jesus  went to the home of Simon and Andrew.
Simon's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever.

Jesus took her by the hand and helped her up.
The fever left her,  and she began to serve her visitors.

That night all the local sick people were brought to Jesus.
He healed many who were suffering from all kinds of diseases.
He also cast out many devils.

Reflection:
At midday yesterday I received a phone call from Dicky Cheung to say his mother is able to talk again now
....after being at point of death last Saturday afternoon, but then reviving after receiving the Sacrament of the Sick.
Jesus who healed Simon's mother-in-law is still on the job ....
(for background story, put "Dicky Cheung" into search box at top of main page of this website)

Prayer: Jesus, please heal (..name..) who is sick
