 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   June 12, 2013
With readers' comments, below

    Reading:  Jeremiah 30-31

God told Jeremiah to tell the people these words:

"I will restore you to health.
I will heal your wounds.

I have loved you with an everlasting love.
Strong and constant is my love for you.

I will bring back the exiles and save them.
I will change their sorrow into joy.

The days are coming when I will make a new agreement with my people.
Deep within their hearts I will plant love of my Law.

I will be their God and they will be my people.
I will forgive all their sins."

Reflection:
Almost every day I find myself praying for/with sick people, especially in prisons
....so....the line above which stands out for me is "I will restore you to health"

Prayer:
Lord, may the line "I will restore you to health" give courage and healing to sick people

Reading:   Psalm 95

Come ring out our joy to the Lord.
Hail the rock who saves us.

Let us come before him giving thanks.
With songs let us praise the Lord.

A mighty God is the Lord,
a great king above all gods.

In his hand are the depths of the earth.
The heights of the mountains are his.

To him belongs the sea, for he made it,
and the dry land shaped by his hands.

Come in, let us bow and bend low.
Let us kneel before the God who made us.

For he is our God
and we are the people who belong to his pasture.

Reflection:
To God belong the sea and the mountains. We are related to the sea and the mountains and the trees and the animals ....since we all come from God.  We can indeed speak about "Brother Sun, Sister Moon, Brother Mountain, Sister Fish etc"

Prayer: Lord, our Creator, help us see that all creatures are cousins

Reading:  Acts 28

After three months we set sail in a ship going to Italy.
Our trip took us to Syracuse, Rhegium and Puteoli before we arrived in Rome

Believers in Rome heard of Paul's arrival and came to meet us.
When Paul saw them, he thanked God with all his heart

Paul was allowed to stay in lodgings of his own, with a soldier to guard him

Reflection:
A good custom:  a little prayer for safety each time we travel

Prayer:
Jesus, thank you helping Paul reach Rome safely.  Thank you for protecting me on all my journeys

Reading: Mark 1

Jesus and the fishermen went to the town of Capernaum.
On the Sabbath Jesus began to teach in the local  prayer hall.

The listeners were deeply impressed by Jesus' teaching.
Unlike the religious leaders, Jesus taught with authority.

That very day in the prayer hall there was a man possessed by an evil spirit.
The spirit shouted out "Have you come to destroy me, Jesus of Nazareth?  I know who you are: the Holy One of God."

Jesus said strongly "Be quiet! Come out of him!"
The evil spirit threw the man on the ground and with a loud cry went out of him.

The people in the prayer hall were amazed. They said
"Here is a teaching which has authority. Even evil spirits obey him."

Jesus' reputation quickly spread throughout the whole district.

Reflection:
Pope Francis has been speaking about evil, evil spirits, the devil ....and this has upset some people

Prayer: Jesus, Holy One of God, please protect my family from evil
