In this week before Pentecost, let's use the daily Mass readings and prayers, focusing on the Holy Spirit, remembering the apostolic group gathered for prayer before the first Pentecost

Readings for the Thursday after Ascension

Reflection:
In today's Gospel Jesus prays for the unity of all his followers.
Christian unity is not an optional extra. It is an essential.
It was one of the main reasons why Pope John XXIII arranged Vatican II.

But in recent years Ecumenism has  "gone off the boil" in many places.
May the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (this week in Southern Hemisphere!) be given more importance at all levels

Prayer (from today's Mass):  Father, let your Spirit come upon us with power to fill us with his gifts.
May he make our hearts pleasing to you, and ready to do your will....and may your Holy Spirit move all Christians to work for unity
