Reading - Reflection - Prayer   May 11, 2013     Our Lady of China
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Acts 1

After Jesus went up to heaven from the Mount of Olives, the apostles went back down to Jerusalem, a walk of about half a kilometer

They gathered in an upstairs room which they used as a meeting place.
The 11 apostles were Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon and Jude

They spent a long time praying. With them were several women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and also Jesus' brothers

Reflection:
Mary was a key part of the apostolic group that prayed for the coming of the Holy Spirit.
Mary will help any person or group that asks her prayers for the coming of the Spirit

Prayer: Jesus, Mary prayed with your apostles' group for the coming of the Holy Spirit.
I now ask her in heaven to pray that the Holy Spirit will increase his influence in my life

Reading:  Psalm 113

Praise, O friends of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord.

May the name of the Lord be blessed
both now and for evermore.

From the rising of the sun to its setting
praised be the name of the Lord.

Who is like the Lord our God,
above the heavens his glory.

From the dust he lifts up the lowly,
to put them in the company of royalty.

To the childless wife he gives a home
and gladdens her heart with children.

Reflection:
With Mary and the apostolic group we praise the Lord our God from morning till night

Prayer:
May the Lord be praised from sunrise to sunset

Reading:  John 19

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene

Seeing his mother and John the apostle standing near her, Jesus said to his mother "He is your son".
Then to John he said "She is your mother".
From that moment, John regarded Mary as his own mother

Jesus said "My work is finished".
Then he bowed his head and died

Reflection:
John represents all peoples, especially all Christians.
Jesus gives us his mother to be our spiritual/heavenly mother

Prayer: Mary, thank you for all you have done for us. Please help us love Jesus more
