 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   April 24, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Isaiah 31-32

How foolish are people who trust in armaments
but never bother to consult the Lord.

Help and salvation come from the Lord who says:

"Once more I will send
the good rain.
Then shall the wilderness be fertile land
and fertile land will become a forest.

In the wilderness justice will come to live
and integrity in the fertile land.
Integrity will bring peace,
and justice will bring security.

My people will live in a peaceful home,
in safe houses, in quiet dwellings."

Reflection:
Some people say it's useless/superstitious to pray for rain or pray for fine weather.
Such people think that petition prayer is a waste of time.
Yet the Bible is full of petition prayer.
And Jesus said "Ask and you will receive"

Prayer:  Lord, please give me more faith in the power of prayer

Reading:  Psalm 46

God is for us a refuge and strength,
in time of distress he is a helper close at hand.

Therefore we shall not fear even though the earth should rock,
even though the mountains fall into the sea.

The Lord of hosts is with us.
The God of Jacob is our stronghold.

Come and consider the works of the Lord
and always remember his words:

"Be still and know that I am God".

Reflection: (Two songs based on this psalm)
YouTube: A Mighty Fortress is our God   and Be Still and Know that I am God

Prayer: Lord, please help me to be still and know that you are God

Reading:  Acts 17

That night Paul and Silas left for the town of Beroea.
At the local prayer hall, the Jews were very
open-minded and warmly welcomed the word of the Lord

Every day they studied the Scriptures to check that Paul's words were true.
Many Jews and many non-Jewish people became believers

Reflection:
Some interesting images of being open-minded !

Prayer:
Jesus, please help people be open-minded when hearing your message

Reading:  Matthew 19

On behalf of all the disciples, Peter asked Jesus
"What about us?  We have left everything to follow you."

Jesus replied "You will be leaders in the church on earth.

Also, anyone who has left home, family or country for the sake of my name, will receive a 100-fold blessing in this life,
and will also receive eternal life in Heaven."

Reflection:
Anyone who has left home for the sake of the Gospel has an extended family of hundreds/thousands/tens of thousands

Prayer: Jesus, please bless all Gospel workers who have left home for your sake
