 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   April 11, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Isaiah 3,4

Jerusalem is falling into ruins
because its people do not keep the Lord's way.

Jerusalem's leaders mislead the people
and lead the way in doing wrong.

But soon the Lord will take action.
He will raise up a people who are good.

The Lord will protect these special people.
He will be their refuge and help.

Reflection:
The main reason why nations decline and "fall into ruins"
is not because of economics or politics, but because
"it people do not keep the Lord's way".
c.f. the Roman Empire: depravity and corruption brought on decline and collapse

Prayer: Lord, please help our nation to avoid evil and do good

Psalm 28

To you, O Lord, I call, my rock, hear me.
If you do not heed, I shall become like people in the grave.

Lord, you are my strength and my shield.
In you my heart trusts.

Thank you, Lord, for so often hearing my prayer.
I will always thank and praise you.

You are the strength of your people Israel.
Save your people. Be our shepherd and carry us for ever.

Reflection:
A beautiful prayer in time of danger, with a recurring theme:
remembering past help gives courage and hope for the present and future

Prayer: Lord, please help people who are in big danger today

Reading:  Acts 13

Paul and Barnabas went to another Antioch, Antioch in Pisidia.
Out of jealousy, the local Jewish leaders there stopped Paul from preaching to the Jewish community

Paul and Barnabas then turned their attention to non-Jewish people,
and so the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside

But the Jewish leaders kept up their campaign, and had Paul and Barnabas expelled from Pisidia

Reflection:
No problem....Jesus said "if they don't want you in one place, go to another place"

Prayer:
Jesus, please strengthen Gospel workers who have been expelled from a place of ministry

Reading:  Matthew 15

Jesus went to the coastal district near Tyre and Sidon.
A foreign woman followed him and shouted
"Sir, Son of David, have pity on me.
My daughter is tormented by an evil spirit."

At first Jesus did not answer her, so his disciples said to him
"Help her, because she keeps shouting after us."

Jesus replied "I was sent only to the people of Israel".
The foreign woman by now was kneeling at Jesus' feet.
"Lord, help me" she pleaded.

Jesus said to her "Woman, you have great faith. Your wish is granted".
At that very moment, her daughter was healed.

Reflection:
Not always, but very often: a link between healing and faith

Prayer: Jesus, please give sick people great faith in you
