 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   April 10, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Isaiah 2

In the days to come, the mountain of the Lord's Temple
will be specially blessed.

All the nations will come to it and say:
"Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
that he may teach us his ways
so that we may walk in his paths".

When they learn the ways of the Lord,
then the nations will hammer their swords into ploughshares,
their spears into sickles.

Nation will not lift sword against nation,
there will be no more training for war.

O House of Jacob, come,
let us walk in the light of the Lord!

Reflection:
Theoretically, a truly Christian nation should be a nation of peace.

Prayer: Lord, please help all nations better learn your ways, so that swords become ploughshares

Psalm 27

The Lord is my light and my help, whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life, before whom shall I shrink?
Though an army encamp against me, even then would I trust.

There is one thing I ask of the Lord, for this I long:
to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

It is your face, O Lord, that I seek. Hide not your face.
I am sure I will see your goodness in the land of the living.

Hope in the Lord, hold firm and take heart. Hope in the Lord!

Reflection:
Remembering God's protection in this life,
longing for God's presence in the life to come,
....gives us hope and courage for each day

Prayer: Lord, please increase my remembering, my longing .... and my hope

Reading:  Acts 13

In the church at Antioch in Syria, the following were prophets and teachers:
Barnabas, Simeon, Lucius, Manaen and Saul

One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said
"I want Barnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have called them"

After fasting and prayer, the leaders prayed for Barnabas and Saul
with the laying on of hands and sent them off on a missionary journey

Reflection:
All Christians are called to work for the spread of the Gospel,
but God calls some Christians to be full-time Gospel workers

Prayer:
Dear Holy Spirit, may I do more to help spread the Good News

Reading:  Matthew 15

Some religious leaders asked Jesus "Why do your disciples ignore many external practices of our religion?"

Jesus answered, with the words of the prophet Isaiah:
"This people honors me with external lip-service,
while their hearts are far from me."

Jesus also said
"It's not certain foods or lack of washing  that makes a person unclean.
It's evil in the  heart that makes a person unclean.

Evil intentions like murder, adultery, fornication, theft, perjury, slander.
These are the things that make a person unclean."

Reflection:
Physical cleanliness is important.
Moral/spiritual cleanliness is even more important

Prayer: Jesus, please  clean my heart
