 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   April 9, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Isaiah 1

Listen, heaven and earth,
for the Lord is speaking:

"The ox knows its owner and the donkey its master's crib.
But my people have rebelled against me.

I am tired of your hypocritical lives,
tired of offerings given with dirty hands.

You are so greedy for profit,
always looking for bribes.

Take your wrong-doing out of my sight.
Stop doing evil. Learn to do good.

Practise justice towards the poor.
Help the oppressed, the orphan and the widow.

Then, though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow."

Reflection:
"Charity covers a multitude of sins" ....especially charity to the poor

Prayer: Lord, please help me "wash my hands" by doing good for poor people

Psalms 24-26

The Lord's is the earth and all its peoples.
It is the Lord who is Creator of the universe.

May all hearts open their doors to the Lord.
Let him enter, the king of glory.

Lord I hope in you all the day long.
Forgive my sins and help me walk in your truth.

Reflection:
Like a poor beggar, the Creator of the universe stands at the door of our hearts and asks entry
....such is his respect for our free will, he will not barge in on our lives

Prayer: God our Creator, please help us open the doors of our hearts to you

Reading:  Acts 12

Wearing his robes of state and sitting on a throne,
King Herod made a speech to the leaders of Tyre and Sidon.
People acclaimed him saying "It is a god speaking, not a man!"

At that moment, the angel of the Lord struck him down, because he had not given the glory to God.
He was eaten away with worms and died

Reflection:
All books/articles should acknowledge their sources.
All humans should acknowledge the Source of our gifts

Prayer:
Jesus, please help us remember that all our talents are a gift from you.
"Not to us, Lord, but to your name be the glory"

Reading:  Matthew 14

When Jesus got out of the boat on the other side of the lake,
people recognized him and news of his presence spread quickly.

From all around that area, sick people were brought to him.
The sick people just wanted to touch his clothing.

All those who touched his clothing were healed

Reflection:
St Augustine (?): We touch Jesus by faith

Prayer: Jesus, please heal my sick friends (..names..) by letting them,
through prayer, touch your clothing
