 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   March 14, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Sirach 29-31

Help others in their time of need.
When people ask you for help, do not turn them away.

Do not let your children grow up wild.
Teach them self control and self-discipline from their earliest years.

Good health is better than silver and gold.
Better to be poor and healthy than rich and sick.

Do not give in to brooding and fretting when things go wrong.
Even in the saddest situation, look for light at the end of the tunnel.

Avoid jealously and anger.
Jealously and anger will shorten your life.

A moderate diet will help you sleep well.
Gluttony produces sleeplessness, biliousness and grumpiness.

Wine was made to cheer our hearts.
But drinking to excess will reduce your strength

Reflection:
The wisdom in the above words sure is good for our ...health!

Prayer: Lord, please help me be moderate with food and drink

Psalms  9-13

I will praise you , Lord, with all my heart.
You have so often rescued me from trouble. Thank you!

You are the best helper for people in trouble.
Please keep on helping me when troubles come.

Please stop bad people from hurting others.
Please let peoples in all countries know they must avoid evil and live a life of justice.

Reflection:
When we get to Heaven and get to see a replay of our lives, we'll be staggered to see how often God helped us
......just as we're not aware now of how much our parents did for us in our first few years of life

Prayer: Dear Lord,  thank you for so often helping me

Reading:  Acts 8

The believers who escaped from Jerusalem went from place to place spreading the Good News

One of these believers was Philip.
He proclaimed the Anointed One in a Samaritan town

The Samaritans welcomed Philip's message because of the miracles he worked

Unclean spirits came out of many possessed people,
and a number of handicapped people were cured

Such miracles caused great rejoicing in that town

Reflection:
Once again...miracles...not just for the first few years of Church, but should be happening right through history.
As explained in The Healing Reawakening by Francis MacNutt

Prayer:
Jesus, let there be more miracles in our day, especially the healing of handicapped people

Reading:  Matthew 12

One day when Jesus was speaking to a crowd of people inside a house,
his mother and brothers arrived at the house.

From outside the house they sent a message to say
they would like to speak with him.

When Jesus heard they were there, he said
"Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?"

Then holding out his hand towards his disciples he said
"Here are my mother and brothers.
Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven,
that person is my brother and sister and mother."

Reflection:
When someone asks "How many brothers and sisters do you have?"
we need to add one more: Jesus!

Prayer: Brother Jesus,  please help me do the will of your Father in heaven
