O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today.

Reading:  Sirach 24

Approach me, you who desire me.
Whoever listens to me will stay on the road of goodness."

Reflection:
May the new pope be blessed with wisdom to help the Church stay on the road of goodness

Prayer: Lord, please help us seek wisdom and listen to wisdom's voice

Lord God, I take refuge in you.
Please rescue me from people who are trying to hurt me.

Lord, please stop bad people from doing bad things.
Please help good people to keep on doing good things.

Lord, I will sing to you and thank you for your goodness to me.

Reflection:
May the new pope reform the Church's structures so that good things increase and bad things decrease

Prayer: Lord, please help us to avoid evil and to do good

The meeting of religious leaders had falsely accused Stephen of being disloyal to Moses

So Stephen gave a long speech, full of loyalty to Moses.
Then he made a stinging attack on the leaders: 
"You stubborn people, with your pagan hearts and pagan ears. You are always resisting the Holy Spirit, 
just as your ancestors did.

Your ancestors killed the prophets who foretold the coming of the Just One.
You have gone further: you have killed the Just One himself"

When the leaders heard these words, they were very angry and wanted to kill Stephen

Reflection:
May the new pope help the Church never resist the Holy Spirit

Prayer: Jesus, Just One from heaven, please don't let us resist the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit of God, please increase your influence in the Church, in the new pope, and in my heart

One Sabbath day Jesus and his disciples were walking through a cornfield. 
The disciples were hungry.
They picked some ears of corn and ate them.

Picking corn on the Sabbath was regarded as unlawful by the Pharisees. 
So the Pharisees said to Jesus "Your disciples are breaking the Sabbath law".

Jesus replied
"Don't you remember what David and his followers once did when they were hungry?
They ate the Temple bread which only the priests were allowed to eat.

Go and learn the meaning  of these words
'What I want is mercy, not superficial external offerings'.

The Son of Man  is master of the Sabbath."

Reflection: 
May the new pope help the Church understand that love is more important than law

Prayer: Jesus, Son of Man, please help us understand that love is more important than law.
