 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   March 6, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Sirach 8-9

Do not look down on an old person.
Old age is our common destiny.

Do not discuss your affairs with everyone you meet.
Be careful when you ask advice.

Do not look lustfully at a woman.
Do not stare at the beauty which belongs to someone else.

Reflection:
Three more pieces of advice
....for a world where old people are often rejected
.....a world where hearts are worn on sleeves
....a world where every second advertisement uses beautiful women

Prayer: Lord, please help me control my tongue and my eyes

Psalm  2

Why are the nations revolting against God?
Why won't the nations accept God?

O kings and rulers of the nations, listen to God's voice.
Serve the Lord with love and honor.

Blessed are the nations that love the Lord

Reflection:
Accepting and loving God has a big effect on the life of an individual.
Accepting and loving God has a big effect on the life of a nation

Prayer: Let all the nations love you, Lord. Let all the nations love you

Reading:  Acts 5

The religious leaders were jealous of the apostles.
The leaders had the apostles arrested and put in prison

But that night an angel of the Lord opened the prison gates
and led them out of the prison, saying to them:

"Go and stand in the Temple, and tell the people all about this new Life"

The apostles went to the Temple at dawn and continued preaching

Reflection:
How often through history have "religious leaders" hindered the spreading of God's message!
This is why God sent prophets in Old Testament times....to call the leaders to order.
In the New Testament, the religious leaders continually opposed Jesus.
In our day, are our religious leaders helping or preventing the spread of the Good News?

Prayer: Jesus, please give the world good religious leaders

Reading:  Matthew 9

Jesus went to many towns and villages.
In the local prayer halls he taught people
the Good News of God's kingdom.
He healed all sorts of diseases and sicknesses.

He felt sorry for the ordinary people
because they were like sheep without a shepherd
- leaderless, exploited, and feeling hopeless.

He said to his friends:
"So many people don't have good leaders.
Pray to God to send good leaders".

Reflection:
Same concern as reading from Acts: good leaders

Prayer: Jesus,  many countries have bad leaders. Please help every country to have good leaders
