 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   March 5, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Sirach 4-5

Let your acquaintances be many,
but your advisers one in a thousand.

A faithful friend is a sure shelter.
People who love and honor the Lord,
will find a faithful friend.

From your youngest days, seek wisdom.
If you love listening, you will find wisdom.

Stretch out your hand to help poor people.
Console people who are sad. Visit the sick.

In everything you do, remember the purpose of life
and you will avoid evil.

Reflection:
The above words - what a gold mine of good advice.
Would that all young people had the chance to hear the above words
...and be encouraged to put them into practice...by example from older people

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help young people to seek wisdom from their earliest days

Psalm  1

Happy the person who avoids evil and evil entertainment.
Happy the person who reads and meditates on God's words.

Such a person is like a tree planted beside a river, getting plenty of nourishment, bearing plenty of fruit.

Such a person is on the Way of Life.
People who do evil are on the Way of Death.

Reflection:
Our basic choice: Life or death, good or evil

Prayer: Dear Lord, please help us do good and avoid evil

Reading:  Acts 5

All the believers used to meet regularly in an area of the Temple.
Their numbers kept on increasing

So many miracles kept happening that sick people were laid on beds on the street,
in the hope that at least Peter's shadow would cover them as he walked past

People came from the towns near Jerusalem, bringing their sick,
and all of the sick were healed

Reflection:
So many healings in time of apostles.
So few in our own time.
When I was at school, we were taught that the miracles of Acts were "special"...to help get the Church started.
But that's not right. Francis MacNutt's The Healing Reawakening explains what went wrong, and why....and how things can be right again

Prayer: Jesus, please let more healings take place in our day

Reading:  Matthew 9

As Jesus walked along, two men who had become blind
followed after him calling out  "Son of David, please help us".

Jesus asked them "Do you believe I can help you?"
They said "Yes we do".

Then Jesus touched their eyes and said
"Your request made in faith is granted".

Immediately they were able to see again.
They told everyone they met  what Jesus had done for them.

Reflection:
Yesterday in a prison, I met a young man who is blind....went blind in both eyes are a Triad fight 8 years ago...doctors can't help him. Each time I see him I pray the above words:

Prayer: "Jesus, Son of David, please help us"
