O Holy Spirit, please guide me as I read these passages for today.                     
May these passages give me hope, strength, wisdom, compassion, courage and peace for my daily life     Chinese text

Reading:  Sirach 1-3

If you desire wisdom, keep the Lord's commandments,
in private as well as in public.

Keep the commandment to honor your parents.
Respect for your father will atone for your sins.
Honor for your mother will gain you blessings.

Support your father in his old age.
Even if his mind should fail, show him kindness.
Do not despise him in your health and strength.

Be gentle in the way you live your life.
The greater you are, the more humbly you should behave.

Reflection:
Caring for aged parents can be a trial....e.g. when they can't manage by themselves yet refuse to enter a seniors' home.
But the above words remind us that caring for aged parents is a sacred time

Prayer: Dear God, please help me always respect and honor my parents, especially when they get old

Praise the Lord from the heavens,
praise him in the heights.

Praise him all his angels,
praise him all his spirits.

Praise him, sun and moon,
praise him, shining stars.

Let them praise the name of the Lord.
His word gave life to all of them.

Praise the Lord from the earth,
sea creatures and all oceans.

Praise him fire and hail, snow and mist,
stormy winds that obey his word.

Praise him all mountains and hills,
all fruit trees and cedars.

Praise him all animals, wild and tame,
reptiles and birds in the air.

Praise him all earth's kings and peoples,
earth's princes and rulers.

Praise him young men and maidens,
old people together with children.

Let them praise the name of the Lord.
He is the praise of all who love him.

Reflection:
We praise movie stars, pop stars and sports stars....but way and above all of these
we should praise the One who made the stars of heaven 

Prayer: Lord our God and Creator, you are worthy of all praise

When Peter and John were released, they went to a gathering of apostles and friends and told them everything that had happened

The group then prayed "Master, it is you who made heaven and earth and sea. 
Please protect us from leaders who threaten us. Help us to proclaim your message with great boldness. 
Bless us to heal and work miracles through the name of your holy servant Jesus"

As they prayed, the building rocked. 
They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to proclaim the word of God boldly

Reflection:
May the building where the cardinals have their conclave  be rocked by the Holy Spirit,
so that the cardinals are filled with boldness and courage for the future

Prayer: Jesus, by the grace of your Holy Spirit, please help the cardinals proclaim your message boldly

One day John the Baptist's friends asked Jesus
"How come we and the religious leaders fast, but your friends don't?"

Jesus replied
"Fasting is a good thing, and after I have left this world
my friends will  fast.

But remember that multiplying external prayers and fasts
without a change of heart  is useless.

Out of date religious structures need a drastic overhaul,
not just external plastic surgery."

Reflection:  
I hope the conclave cardinals remember Jesus' words: "Out of date religious structures need a drastic overhaul" 

Prayer: Jesus, please give the cardinals wisdom and courage to reform the Church
