Readings for February 10, the Fifth Sunday of the Year (C)

First reading:  Like Peter in the Gospel, the young Isaiah feels unworthy to be in God's presence

Responsorial Psalm:  In the presence of the angels Isaiah (in the first reading) was blessing God

Second reading:  Like Isaiah and Peter, Paul expresses his unworthiness to be God's messenger

Gospel:  Peter expresses his unworthiness in Jesus' presence

Reflection:
The lesson of Isaiah, Paul and Peter is that God's team could be called "The Unworthy Ones".
In fact, we sometimes get the impression that God prefers people who are aware of their unworthiness, rather than proud people - just like the two men praying in the Temple: God preferred the humble tax collected rather than the proud Pharisee

Prayer
Jesus, please help us imitate Isaiah, Paul and Peter....and the humble tax collector
