 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   Feb 7, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Proverbs 30-31

Every word of God is true and of great value.
Do not change or misinterpret God's words.

Do not give way to sexual excess.
Do not give way to drunkenness.

Be the voice of the poor, the unwanted.
Uphold the rights of the needy.

Happy the man who finds a good wife.
She is far beyond the price of pearls.

She looks after her household with care.
She works diligently for her family.

She holds out her hand to the poor.
She opens her arms to the needy.

Charm is deceitful, and beauty empty.
The woman who is wise is the one to praise.

Reflection:
The final 5 sections of this reading are about the "good wife".
The translation/selection above adapts the original reading.
The original portrays a 24/7 superwoman!

The idea of loving a woman for her
inner beauty
is found in the old Irish song The Rose of Tralee
(YouTube...very old version...best I can find that has lyrics)
with the words
"Yet 'twas not her beauty alone that won me...O no 'twas the truth in her eyes ever dawning, that made me love Mary, the Rose of Tralee"

This is our final reading from Proverbs.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for all the wisdom in the Book of Proverbs!

Reading: Psalm 125

Those who put their
trust in the Lord
are like Mount Zion, that cannot be shaken.

Jerusalem, the mountains surround her,
so the Lord surrounds his people, now and forever.

Reflection:
In learning to swim, the more a child trusts its teacher, the more progress it will make.
For all sports, progress is related to the relationship of
trust between coach and sportsperson.
Trust is basic for any relationship: between spouses, between parents and children, between friends.

Prayer: Lord,  please increase my trust in you....and help me be more aware of your protecting presence

Reading:  Revelation 21

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth.
The first heaven and the first earth
had disappeared now, and there was no longer any sea

I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem,
coming down from God out of heaven,
as beautiful as a bride all dressed for her husband

I heard a voice call from the throne: "You see this city?
Here God lives among people. He will make his home among them.
They shall be his people. He will be their God.
His name is God-with-them ("Emmanuel")

He will wipe away all tears from their eyes.
There will be no more death, no more sadness.
The world of the past has gone

Reflection:
This description of Heaven is one of the most encouraging passages in the Bible.
Our looking forward to Heaven should increase as we get older....looking forward to being re-united with our deceased family members....looking forward to being with the Trinity and all the saints

Prayer: Jesus, may the thought of heaven give us courage here on earth

Reading:  John 21

After they had eaten, Jesus said to Peter "Simon, son of John, do you love me?"
Peter answered "Yes Lord, you know I love you". Jesus said to him "Feed my lambs"

A second time Jesus asked him "Simon, son of John, do you love me?"
He replied "Yes Lord, you know I love you".
Jesus said to him "Look after my sheep"

Then he asked a third time "Simon, son of John, do you love me?"
An unhappy Peter replied "Lord, you know everything. You know I love you".
Jesus said "Feed my sheep"

Reflection:    You know I love you, you know I love you, you know I love you

Prayer: Jesus, you know I love you. Please increase my love
