Readings for February 2, the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus

First reading:  The Lord whom you seek will come to the Temple

Responsorial Psalm:  Let the king of glory come in

Second reading: Jesus is a high priest who has been tempted and has suffered

Gospel:  The 40-day old Jesus is taken to the Temple....and recognized by Simeon

Reflection:
This is a really beautiful and moving feast with a star-studded cast: Jesus, Mary, Joseph, Simeon and Anna,
but conspicuously missing are the religious leaders of the time. God by-passed them.
The story has simplicity, humility, joy.
Today is a good day to use the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary, since the fourth Joyful mystery is the Presentation.

Prayer
(The Nunc Dimittis of Simeon):
Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word,
for my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples:
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and glory for your people Israel.
