 Reading - Reflection - Prayer   Jan 23, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Proverbs 11-12

Pride comes before a fall.
Humility brings wisdom.

A city prospers when good people are many.
A city falls when good people are few.

Good people are kind to animals.
Bad people are cruel to animals.

Good people overlook insults.
Good people's speech promotes harmony in society.

Worry makes our hearts heavy.
Kindly words from others make us glad.

Reflection:
Once again, every line full of good advice, full of wisdom.
Once again, this is the sort of learning students should study at school

Prayer: Lord, help us remember the above words .... and put them into practice

Reading:  Psalms 114-115

Praise, O friends of the Lord,
praise the name of the Lord.

May the name of the Lord be blessed
both now and for evermore.

From the rising of the sun to its setting
praised be the name of the Lord.

Who is like the Lord our God,
above the heavens his glory.

From the dust he lifts up the lowly,
to put them in the company of royalty.

To the childless wife he gives a home
and gladdens her heart with children.

Reflection:

Prayer: May the Lord be praised from sunrise to sunset!

Reading:  Revelation 7

I saw a huge number, impossible to count, of people from every nation, race, and language

They were standing in front of the throne, with palms in their hands.
They shouted
: "Victory to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb"

One of the elders told me who these people are:
"These are the people who have been through the great persecution.
They now serve God day and night in his sanctuary.
The Lamb is their Shepherd. He leads them to springs of living water.
God has wiped away all tears from their eyes"

Reflection:
No crying in Heaven. No sound of crying. No tissues. And probably we will forget the times we cried on earth, just as adults can't remember the time they cried as children when receiving a doctor's needle

Prayer: Jesus, please help sorrowing people who are crying today

Reading:  John 19

Pilate then had Jesus taken away and scourged

The soldiers used thorns to make a crown and pushed this into Jesus' head

They dressed him in a purple cloak and mocked him saying
"Hail, king of the Jews".

They slapped him in the face

Reflection:
Imagine children treating their parents the way Jesus was treated: with scourging, mockery and slapping. How could creatures treat the Incarnate Creator thus?

Prayer: Jesus, scourged and made fun of, please help me not  to hurt anyone by my words or actions
