R-R-P  Reading - Reflection - Prayer   Jan 12, 2013
With readers' comments, below

Reading:  Job 40-42

Job said to God " My words have been frivolous. I will not say anything else."

God then reminded Job how God was creator of everything, including amazing animals like the hippo and crocodile.

Job then said to God "I know you are all-powerful. I have been speaking about things I don't fully understand. I retract all I have said and in dust and ashes I repent."

God then praised Job for his fidelity.
God restored Job to good health.

God restored Job's possessions, more than he had before:
10 more children and thousands of animals.
Job lived to be 140 years old and died full of peace.

Reflection:
Now that we have finished the Book of Job, it's interesting to have a look at this article

which points out
that the Book of Job is a work of poetry

Prayer: Dear God, you never really answered Job's questions about the mystery of evil and suffering ....but we know your Son Jesus gave us the answers, by confronting evil and suffering, and by suffering on the Cross

Reading:  Psalm 103

My soul, give thanks to the Lord.
All my being, bless his holy name.

My soul, give thanks to the Lord
and never forget all his blessings.

It is he who forgives all your guilt,
who heals every one of your ills.

It is he who fills your life with good things,
renewing your youth like an eagle's life.

The Lord is compassion and love,
slow to anger and rich in mercy.

As the heavens are high above the earth
so strong is his love for those who fear him.

As far as the East is from the West,
so far does he remove our sins.

As a father has compassion on his sons,
the Lord has pity on all who love and honor him.

Give thanks to the Lord, all his angels,
who heed the voice of his word.

Give thanks to the Lord, everyone and everything.
My soul, give thanks to the Lord!

Reflection:
This is one of the most beautiful psalms....good to use often, especially at times of thanksgiving

Prayer:  Thank you, Lord, for your love and compassion

Reading:  Revelation 2

The Son of Man gave me this message for the church in Ephesus:

"I know all about you. I know how much you have suffered for me.

But your love has grown cold.
Repent, and revive your original love"

Reflection:
Love can grow cold, our love for our spouse, our children, our parents....our God.
We need to do things that keep love warm, especially little things like genuine communication etc

Prayer:

Jesus, keep my love for you strong. Don't let it grow cold

Reading:  John 14

At the meal, Jesus said to his disciples
"To have seen me, is to have seen the Father.
I am in the Father, and the Father is in me

Whatever you ask for in my name, I will do it,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you love me, you will keep my commandments

I will ask the Father and he will give you another Friend to be always with you.
This Friend is the Spirit of Truth who will be living in your heart

If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him,
and we shall come to him and make our home in his heart"

Reflection:
This is about as high as our minds can fly...thinking about the Trinity,
....the Trinity in Heaven....the Trinity living in...our hearts!

Prayer: Father, Jesus, Spirit of Truth - three Persons, one God
 - thank you for living in my heart
